Shopping at Caneel Bay
The Gift Shop, Caneel's own shopping mecca, features an array of elegantly casual clothing and swimwear for ladies and gentlemen. For gifts and souvenirs, browse through the collection of fine and fanciful jewelry and accessories made by local and international artisans. Tropical scented lotions and gels, including fragrant and therapeutic Bay Rum, are available and make great gifts to take home. A selection of unique crafts from St. John and other Caribbean islands has been carefully collected for The Shop. Necessity items, books, magazines, newspapers and snacks are also available. Open 8 a.m.-10 p.m. daily in winter and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in summer.
At the Dive Shop located above the Caneel's Water Sports Desk, a complete range of snorkel gear, wet suits and underwater accessories is available for purchase. Sail board and sailboat accessories and books are also available. Guests are encouraged to stop by the Dive Shop with questions about our dive program.
The Tennis Pro Shop, located on the patio at the tennis courts, carries a selection of name brand tennis wear for men and women. Especially popular with guests is the unique line of Caneel logo apparel and accessories. Tennis racquets, balls, shoes and supplies are also available. Instructional material including educational tennis DVDs and books by Peter Burwash are also for sale. Check with our PBI Professionals for help on any area of your game. All reservations for court time, lessons or information on programs are handled directly by the Pro Shop staff. Cold beverages including sports drinks, juices, bottled water and soft drinks are available for purchase.
Shopping at St. John
The Marketplace offers a range of shops, restaurants, a drug-store and pharmacy and a bank.A bank is also located in the center of Cruz Bay opposite Woody's. The Post Office is located in the center of town. As St. John is part of the United States, the postal service and prices are the same as for the rest of the USA. Shop hours vary, but most are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In season, many shops stay open in the evenings. Taxis are available to take guests to these shops and fares range from $5-10 per person. Coral Bay is "the country" to Cruz Bay's "town." Make sure to visit this unusual East End community. You will find interesting shopping, restaurants, bars, a deli and probably a few surprises.
Shopping at St. Thomas
Long considered the serious shopper's paradise in the Caribbean, the many stores along Main Street, the waterfront and numerous alleyways of Charlotte Amalie offer an enormous variety of goods from gold and trinkets to t-shirts of all kinds. Caneel's ferry departs the resort at various times during the day bound directly for downtown Charlotte Amalie and returns to Caneel at regular intervals throughout the afternoon. Check with Reception for the current ferry schedule. U.S. Customs Duty-Free Allowance is $1,000 per person. Note: Most stores are closed Sundays.
