Sep. 12, 2011
NEW YORK, NY - The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel has named Jacques Sorci the new Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Director of the legendary hotel. Sorci will lead The Carlyle’s talented culinary team at the renowned Carlyle Restaurant, a romantic and elegant New York gem and one of Manhattan’s most highly acclaimed culinary destinations. Chef Sorci joins The Carlyle following his most recent position as Executive Chef and Director of Food & Beverage at The Ritz Carlton New York, Battery Park. During his ten-year tenure, he successfully opened the hotel’s culinary operation, which was awarded many accolades under his leadership. Sorci is a native of the French Alps and has gained considerable experience cooking in some of the world’s most legendary kitchens.
“We are delighted to have Jacques at The Carlyle,” said Erich Steinbock, Managing Director of The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel. “He has an extensive background not only in luxury hotels, but also in highly regarded restaurants, making him a natural fit to lead The Carlyle’s culinary team.”
Chef Sorci’s Contemporary French Cuisine celebrates an innovative approach to food focusing on the freshest and finest seasonal ingredients to create simple, bold flavors. His menu at The Carlyle Restaurant will evolve seasonally to feature in season dishes that capture the interest and please the palate of both local patrons and hotel guests.
Sorci received his formal education from The Hotel School of Thonon les Bains in France, where he completed training at the Five-Star Le Grand Hotel in Cabourg, France and the Five Star Brussels Hilton in Belgium. He ascended the ranks in some of the most highly acclaimed kitchens in Europe, including two Michelin Star ranked restaurants: Perle du Lac in Geneva and Restaurant Salomon in Montmelian, France. In 1986, Sorci moved to the United States where he eventually joined The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and gained valuable experience in luxury hospitality. Sorci went on to assume Executive Chef Positions at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner in Virginia, The Ritz Carlton, Marina Del Ray in California and The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park. In 2003, Sorci was inducted into the prestigious Maitres Cuisiniers de France (French Master Chef Association). The following year, he was also inducted into the Academie Culinaire de France, a prestigious honor bestowed upon only a handful of the most outstanding chefs in France.
The Carlyle’s proud tradition of legendary hospitality, culinary excellence and exquisite service will continue as Chef Jacques Sorci leads the hotel’s talented culinary team to give guests and local neighbors an unforgettable New York City dining experience.
