So You Think You Can Cook: Challenge the Chef
Jun. 15, 2011
LOS CABOS, MEXICO - Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort has thrown down the culinary gauntlet. If you think you can cook then Las Ventanas is giving you the chance to prove it with 'Challenge the Chef.' And if you win the challenge, you are honored by having your original dish added to the menu of the Five Diamond resort's acclaimed signature restaurant.
"For our guests who love to cook, and believe they have a magic touch in the kitchen, Challenge the Chef is a chance of a lifetime," said Executive Chef Fabrice Guisset, who conceived the concept. "Like today’s reality TV shows that lift the aspiring to stardom, you can finally be recognized for your culinary skills."
Here's how Challenge the Chef works:
- The Guest discusses which dish he or she wishes to prepare with Chef Guisset , and the chef then prepares a tray with the appropriate ingredients. The Guest must create a dish using only these ingredients plus a minimum of two herbs from the resort’s Herb Garden.
- The guest has one hour to prepare the dish, using the open-air demonstration kitchen in the Herb Garden.
- When the hour is up, Chef Guisset returns to the Herb Garden and offers a champagne toast for the guest and his/her traveling companion.
- The guest then must explain what the dish is, how he/she made it, etc.
- Three Spoons: Superb. The dish is added to the a la carte menu of The Restaurant for one week, and the guest is credited on the menu. The guest also receives a set of Las Ventanas Chef’s Whites to take home.
- Two Spoons: Intriguing. The dish is added to the Specials Menu the next day, or included as a garnish for one of the a la carte dishes, and the guest is credited on the menu.
- One Spoon: A work in progress. The guest receives a complimentary tequila shot.
- 71 exceptionally spacious suites with exquisite furnishings, unique appointments hand-crafted by Mexican artisans, magnificent views and individual telescopes for stargazing;
- Three different dining choices including signature Baja-Mediterranean cuisine – a signature cuisine unique to Las Ventanas that blends the best of Baja and the Mediterranean – at The Restaurant; 'Cocina del Fuego' at the Sea Grill cooked on wood-burning grills, and Mexico's finest tequilas and most innovative sushi and ceviche menus at the Ceviche, Sushi & Tequila Bar;
- A holistic spa that is internationally heralded for its innovative menu inspired by the ancient healers of Baja, peaceful garden ambiance and highly skilled therapists.
- The most extensive array of ultra-luxury amenities of any resort, from poolside butlers to a Director of Romance dedicated to making guests' romantic dreams come true.
