BIO: Wine & Bev. Director Michael Flynn
Distinguished sommelier Michael Flynn joined the culinary team at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in September 2007. Flynn has served nearly 20 years as wine director and sommelier for some of the nation's most prestigious fine-dining restaurants. He is a three-time nominee for the James Beard Foundation's Outstanding Wine Service Award, and he has achieved an advanced diploma from the Court of Master Sommeliers.
Flynn plays a key role in the development of wine lists and beverage menus in the recently redesigned Mansion Restaurant, Chef's Room and Mansion Bar. He is responsible for wine service, staff training, wine pairing menus and wine tasting events at Texas' only five-star, five-diamond hotel. He also oversees the extensive inventory in The Mansion's historic wine cellar, which was once the silver vault of the original Sheppard King estate built in 1925.
Michael Flynn joined Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek from Kinkead's, an acclaimed restaurant in Washington, D.C with a long list of accolades from the James Beard Foundation to the Zagat Guide to the Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA). Flynn spent 13 years working with celebrity chef Bob Kinkead. During this time, Flynn was nominated three times by the James Beard Foundation for Outstanding Wine Service, and Kinkead's was voted Outstanding Wine and Beverage Program by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. In addition, he oversaw the wine program of chef Kinkead's Virginia outpost, Colvin Run Tavern. Flynn's experience also extends to The Occidental Grill and Le Pavillon, two acclaimed restaurants where he served as sommelier.
Flynn has been described as Washington, D.C.'s "best known, best loved sommelier" by the Washingtonian and "one of America's finest sommeliers" by the Wine Advocate. He is actively involved in associations in his field, such as the American Institute of Wine and Food, and he has been a featured contributor to publications, such as Sante and Wine Spectator. Flynn is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, where he earned an undergraduate degree with honors in French. He is fluent in French and Spanish.
