Private or group bicycle tours include 27-speed aluminum mountain bikes (small, medium, large and extra-large bikes) with front suspension, helmet, gloves, guide and mechanic assistance. The intrepid guides lead bikers up and down the hills and arroyos, across rivers, through herds of bulls, cows, donkeys and goats and country villages.

San Miguel offers several good all-day hiking trails, such as the Palo Huérfano mountain on the south side of town. Hikers take the road prior to hiking the trails to the summit, where there are oaks and pines; El Charco del Ingenio, botanical garden with the biggest cactus collection in Latin America in an area of 64 hectares, with lovely views, a deep canyon and an artificial lake. There are great views and hikes around the canyon and lakes, and it is a good spot for watching the sunset and Los Picachos, the protected forestry reserve of 90 hectares in the highlands, is ideal for bird-watchers.
