New Afternoon Tea Service at Popular Peninsula Destination Features Savory and Sweet Concoctions Presented with Premium Selection of Hot, Infused Beverages

MENLO PARK, CA - Michael Casey, Managing Director of Rosewood Sand Hill®, is pleased to announce that the hotel’s celebrated culinary team will launch Afternoon Tea at Madera, the signature restaurant at the elegant peninsula destination set against the backdrop of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Local and overnight guests will be able to enjoy afternoon tea service, including light bites, on Saturdays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. starting July 14, 2012.

“Afternoon tea is a wonderful social custom and one that we believe is ideally suited for the interactions we see among our Rosewood Sand Hill guests,” said Casey. “Our culinary team – led by Executive Chef Peter Rudolph – has come up with an enticing selection of satisfying light dishes to carry our guests through that mid-afternoon gap between lunch and dinner while they relax inside Madera’s stunning dining room, on the outdoor terrace, or in the hotel’s lovely Library.”

The Michelin-starred Madera will offer several hot teas from which guests can choose, including Bai Mu Dan (white tea from China); Nishi Sencha (green tea from Japan); Jasmine Pearl (green tea from China); Golden Phoenix (Oolong from China); Cacao Mint (herbal blend); and Tumeric Spice (herbal blend). Champagne will also be available for those who prefer sparkling refreshment.

To assuage afternoon cravings, Chef de Cuisine Erik Romme has created light but savory hors d’oeuvres such as Duck Confit Rillete; Shrimp Waldorf; Medjool Dates with St. Benoit Yogurt; and Apricot and Brie Flatbread. To satisfy sweet yearnings, Executive Pastry Chef Mellisa Root has developed seasonal confections and pastries to accompany the beverage of choice, including Fresh Baked Scones, Clotted Devonshire Cream and House-made Preserves.

In accordance with the social custom that originated in England in the 1840s, children are also invited to enjoy afternoon tea with a special menu that includes sandwiches of Almond Butter and Jelly or Ham and Cheese, and Cheese Flatbread. The children can select from teas, juices and other non-alcoholic beverages.
