Can you describe an experience in San Martin you’ve particularly enjoyed?
During harvest we love to visit the Frantoio Olive Grove where they press the most delicious oils. We’ve had the chance to go behind the scenes at the grove and hand-harvest the fruit – it’s amazing the care that goes into the production of the family-made olive oil.
Do you have a favorite hike?
The three mile vineyard trail by Clos La Chance vineyard is spectacular – we always see deer and other wildlife no matter what the season.
Can you describe your most blissful moment?
There is a huge roaring fireplace right as you enter CordeValle and for me sitting by the fire toasting marshmallows for S’Mores with family and friends is always a great time—my wife enjoys the spa.
Is there an art experience you enjoy?
CordeValle is where we like to be. We like to have a place that we can enjoy being with our family, friends and also corporate events. Being staged in the middle of Pebble Beach Golf Course, Monterey and San Francisco is a perfect staycation location for us. That being said, we bring clients in for corporate events from all over, and CordeValle provides the perfect location for our meetings.
Is there a place you like to have lunch in the area?
The property lends itself to a variety of locations to enjoy Chef Victor’s creations, the Yoga Deck, Clos LaChance winery, out by the fire pit, we honestly like it all.
What’s your favorite rainy day activity?
If you have had the pleasure of staying in one of the CordeValle guest rooms, there would be no need to pose that question. Fireplace roaring, views of the course, ordering room service. Life is great.
Can you describe your favorite hole on the golf course at CordeValle?
Hole #6. It’s a par 5 in an amazing setting—the winery is on your left and there’s a creek in front of the green. This is where the term life is more beautiful than art must have come from.
What’s your go-to 19th hole drink?
Fresh squeezed lemonade… Does it get any better?
What’s the best way to spend the day if you’re not playing golf?
Yoga and tennis lessons with the kids. We take a long hike and end at the deck where a picnic lunch of sandwiches and fresh salads is waiting for us. Also the spa. CordeValle is centrally located to so many amazing Bay Area attractions that it really provides the perfect staging ground to almost anywhere we like to visit.
Is there must-do day trip?
If you are coming from out of town, the 17 Mile Drive is an exceptional experience. It’s a famous coastal landmark that runs from Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach, featuring awe-inspiring vistas and legendary sites. We’ll do it by bike or we’ll rent a convertible so that we can take in The Lone Cypress, Spanish Bay and Stillwater Cove. We also love to bike over San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. That being said, CordeValle continues to be one of our families favorite must do, break away “day-trips.”
What’s your favorite place to watch the sunset?
There’s no better place in California to watch the sunset then on my patio overlooking the valley. We always stay in the Chardonnay villa when it’s available.
What’s your favorite way to end the day?
The outdoor hot tub in our villa looks over the lush California valley.
