Next Stop, Bach
One of New York City’s best music venues? Its subway stations.
Who needs Carnegie Hall when one can play the six Cello Suites of Bach to the symphony of steel on steel, in front of 200,000 people each day? Enter Dale Henderson, graduate of the New England Conservatory, teacher, soloist and music activist. His efforts to revive classical music began in 2010, when he began free performances of Bach in the Subways. Today, a growing number of musicians are joining Henderson’s mission by taking classical music out of the opera house and into the daily lives of commuters. Discover more classical and non-classical musical talent in New York’s subways here.
