Rosewood Luang Prabang Illuminates the Path to an Ancient Laotian Tradition: The Festival of Lights
Rosewood Luang Prabang, the riverside sanctuary nestled in the heart of Laos, invites guests to witness one of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular cultural events, Boun Lai Heua Fai, with its “Festival of Lights” experience package. Taking place on 8th October, the festival offers a breathtaking display of light and tradition in the enchanting UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang.
The “Festival of Lights” package is designed to provide an immersive and seamless journey into the heart of this ancient Laotian tradition. The festival, which marks the end of Buddhist Lent, sees the town decorated with vibrant lanterns as locals launch hundreds of intricately crafted, illuminated boats onto the Mekong River, creating a mesmerizing “river of fire” that pays homage to the spirit of the water and sends away misfortune.
The Rosewood experience allows guests to connect with the soul of Luang Prabang. Guests can set the tone for a getaway filled with discovery by joining the morning alms giving, a revered local ritual. From there, a guided temple tour offers a window into the city's spiritual heart, providing a rare glimpse of monks and locals meticulously preparing their boats and lanterns for the evening's main procession on the evening of October 8. As daylight fades on the festival day itself, guests will witness the Boun Lai Heua Fai decorative boat parade at the iconic Vat Xiengthong, a spirited and treasured tradition where local organizations and villagers present their illuminated creations. The cultural immersion culminates in a gastronomic exploration — a 'Taste of Luang Prabang' themed dinner at The Great House, showcasing the country’s rich culinary heritage.
The Rosewood Luang Prabang “Festival of Lights” package includes:
Luxurious accommodations for a minimum of two nights.
Private roundtrip transfers from Luang Prabang International Airport or the Luang Prabang Railway Station.
Daily breakfast for two at The Great House.
A memorable morning alms giving experience for two guests.
A special “Taste of Luang Prabang” dinner for two guests.
A guided temple walk on October 7 to witness monks and locals preparing for the main parade.
The “Festival of Lights” package is available for stays between 6 and 10 October 2025 during the festival. More information and bookings are available at the Rosewood Luang Prabang's Festival of Lights offer page.
