The Five Diamond Resort’s New Destination Is New Place to See and Be Seen in Los Cabos

Released 1 January 2020

(SAN JOSE DEL CABO, MEXICO) – On January 1, 2020, Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort opened a doorway to La Botica, the first-ever hotel speakeasy piano bar in Los Cabos led by Bar Manager, Philippe Zaigue and Artist in Residence, Rosalia de Cuba. Paying homage to the Prohibition era, La Botica – which translates to “drugstore” in English – is a multisensory journey to the 1920’s through design, music and cocktails evocative of the period. True to its name, the speakeasy is themed around an herbal apothecary and has quickly become the must-visit destination in Los Cabos for its ambiance, live entertainment and herbal- and wellness-minded cocktails. Along with the debut, Las Ventanas has introduced its first and only Artist in Residence, Rosalía de Cuba who captures the crowd through her charisma and international rhythms.

“The opening of La Botica marks an exciting development for the destination of Los Cabos, as guests and visitors will for the first time have an exclusive space at a hotel for a nightcap with inventive cocktails and live music by our new Artist in Residence, Rosalía de Cuba” “We’re thrilled to continue our series of innovative developments with La Botica, as it further elevates our standing collection of exciting offerings.”

Frederic Vidal, managing director of Las Ventanas al Paraiso

Guests and visitors discover La Botica through a clandestine door next to The Spa at Las Ventanas and are transported into a glamorous space reminiscent of an herbal medicine pharmacy. The back bar features an elaborate display of herbs, spices and flowers to match the inventive cocktail menu by Bar Manager, Philippe Zaigue and light bites by Executive Chef Diego Stefan. Following their entertaining experience, guests exit the speakeasy through a door under the guise of a vintage Coca-Cola refrigerator.

The property is thrilled with the introduction of their new Artist in Residence, the renowned singer and entertainer, Rosalía de Cuba. She takes the stage at La Botica to capture the crowd through Cuban, Caribbean, Latin and international rhythms. Her energetic presence and powerful voice convey the feeling, passion and joy in each song she sings. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, Rosalia studied piano, voice and music history throughout her childhood. She has presented her music on stages in Europe and North America, including the Wiesen Jazz Festival in Vienna and the New Orleans Jazz Festival in the U.S. In Mexico, Rosalia has generated great appreciation for her music with countless shows at festivals, cultural events, theaters and weddings. She sings her dynamic, authentic and elegant ballads in English, French, Italian and Portuguese, and of course in Spanish.

Renowned in the mixology world, Bar Manager, Philippe Zaigue is leading the charge on La Botica. Having co-founded the famous Speakeasy in Mexico City’s Juarez neighborhood known as "Hanky Panky,” Philippe draws inspiration from his experience and worldly travels. At La Botica, he’s expertly crafted an apothecary-themed cocktail menu with ingredients including organic produce, herbs and botanicals. The menu contains 12 signature creations with crafted syrups, bitters, infusions and liqueurs, including a Saffron Daquiri and Bee’s Wax Old Fashioned. The menu also features 10 house classics ranging from the prohibition era up to the cocktail renaissance of the new millennial and a selection of low proof cocktails and mocktails focusing on aperitifs and low alcohol libations. An industry leader, Philippe is also the winner of multiple awards, including Grey Goose 10 Mexico 2013 and Havana Club Grand Prix Mexico 2014.

La Botica is open for hotel guests and visitors from Monday through Sunday from 7pm – 2am, with live music from 8:30pm – 12:30am.
