Jeddah’s award-winning hotel Rosewood Jeddah is making preparations for one of the most exciting culinary festivals in the city, the Turkish Food Festival, taking place from January 7 to 20, 2016.
Making its debut for the very first time at the hotel’s popular Habsburg restaurant, the Turkish Food Festival will showcase the best of Turkish cuisine, offering guests the chance to experience the most popular and delicious traditional dishes.
The Turkish Food Festival will be spearheaded by Rosewood Jeddah’s Sous Chef Tahir Guneysu, a Turkish national, who will be preparing various popular dishes from his home country over the course of the two week festival.
Overseen by Executive Chef Amjad Al Ghandoor, Chef Tahir will specialise in vegetable dishes including a number of cold Turkish mezze appetizers and will also be preparing the best in Turkish meat dishes including İskender kebab, one of the most famous meat foods of north western Turkey and Güveç, a traditional Turkish stew, as well as Lahmacun, a round, thin piece of dough topped with minced meat and minced vegetables and herbs.
“We are thrilled to be bringing the Turkish Food Festival to Rosewood Jeddah,” says Chef Amjad. “The idea behind the festival is to bring famous dishes from Turkey all the way to Jeddah. I’m looking forward to working with talented Chef Tahir and exposing guests to a true Turkish dining experience right here in Jeddah.”
A variety of different stations will feature a selection of mouth-watering Turkish desserts including Gözleme, a savoury traditional Turkish pastry and a Turkish ice cream show served in the authentic Turkish style. Guests will have the chance to watch their dishes being cooked live, where they can also interact with the chefs and ask questions.
To contribute to the Turkish ambience, guests will be able to catch a glimpse of the Ottoman sultans as a statue of a Sultan in a chair will be placed in a designated area of the restaurant.
“I am honoured that my home country will be recognised at the first Turkish Food Festival and I am of course, very excited to be managing the event on behalf of the hotel" says Chef Tahir. "I am so proud of the cuisine that has been created in Turkey and really can’t wait to share my passion and love of this food with the people of Jeddah. Chef Amjad and I have prepared a diverse and rich menu for visitors including a large selection of Turkish specialties.”
The two week event is hosted by the culinary team at Habsburg restaurant, and sponsored by The First Group, Platinum Magazine, Alam Al Rajul Magazine, Destination Jeddah, Mix FM and Qatar Airways.
Those eager to experience a taste of Turkey will be able to dine each evening from 7:00 p.m. to midnight and at Friday brunch from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the food festival.
