Embark on a mystical journey of healing and spirituality in Laos
Step back in time for a rare, transformative experience with a mystical Hmong healer and traditional medicine man, as well as meditation with a revered Buddhist monk, a private ceremony and shared meal with novice monks and foraging in the forest with local hill tribes.
In the mist-covered hills of the former Kingdom of a Million Elephants, where a mesmerizing waterfall cascades down towards the gilded Buddhist temples of an ancient UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits Rosewood Luang Prabang. Follow this powerful flow from our restorative haven for a quartet of uniquely curated sensory adventures befitting its magical setting. Experience first-hand the mystical powers of Mr Xong, a venerated Hmong healer who has been practising traditional medicine for more than 25 years. He can help treat and alleviate symptoms for a range of illnesses and ailments, using ancient Hmong remedies that incorporate rare herbs found in the forests of his local lowland village. Every treatment is specially tailored to the needs of individual guests, and administered with warm, custom-made herbal poultices.
Accompanied by the resort’s resident Buddhist expert and meditation master, former monk Mr. Sommaiy, guests will have the honor of walking in the Buddha’s footsteps to a remote, gilded shrine. Here in this sacred space, we have arranged an audience and meditation session with one of the most revered monks in Laos.
Giving is a way of life in Laos, and Rosewood Luang Prabang has partnered with the Buddhist Heritage Project in its mission to preserve the country’s rich history, culture and traditions. In an extraordinary ritual, guests can accompany about 800 novice monks in a procession through Luang Prabang and up the Mekong River to a Buddhist academy, where they will have the exceptional opportunity of a private giving and blessing ceremony and shared meal with the novices.
Tastebuds are in for a treat, too, as guests join French-born culinary director Sebastien Rubis in a foraging expedition alongside farmers and local hill tribe members for wild herbs and other native ingredients. Sebastien, a distinguished United Nations Chef Ambassador for Laos, then shares his passion for reviving ancestral and forgotten traditional recipes using the freshly picked ingredients in a culinary masterclass and special banquet on royal Laotian cuisine.
