Rosewood Clearwater Bay, Hainan to Open 2018
June 24, 2015
A Sense of Place® concept to be expressed in sophisticated resort sanctuary
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® has been appointed by the CMT Group of Taiwan to manage Rosewood Clearwater Bay, Hainan opening in 2018. It will be the second Rosewood resort on Hainan Island and the fourth property in mainland China following Rosewood Beijing’s opening in October 2014, and Rosewood Sanya and Rosewood Guangzhou both opening in 2017. The property will join an exclusive collection of Rosewood hotels and resorts, which today numbers 18 properties worldwide, expected to grow to 50 in operation by 2020.
“By topography, design and intention, Rosewood Clearwater Bay will be a private and sophisticated sanctuary on the island,” says Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “Its concept is timeless yet contemporary, melding strong architecture with breathtaking landscape, offering discreet yet superb service.”
The property will be situated on a secluded bay offering exclusive access to a 1.6-kilometer (5,250-foot) pristine beach. The resort’s naturally tranquil environment will be complemented by an abundance of water features, generous use of indigenous timber and stone and unobstructed sightlines to the South China Sea.
Accommodations will consist of 116 villas with full ocean views. These include 95 within low-rise buildings that will blend harmoniously into the surroundings and include private elevators dedicated to two sky villas on each floor. Each sky villa accommodation will be enhanced by an outdoor terrace and most have private swimming pools. The 21 standalone beach villas will feature 165-square-meter (1,776-square-foot) interiors; equal-size outdoor space will include an arrival courtyard, garden, large private pool and high walls to ensure absolute privacy. Also showcased will be a free-standing, grand three-bedroom Presidential villa at 695 square meters (7,481 square feet.)
There will also be 47 villa residences of up to six bedrooms in size available for purchase.
All accommodations will merge with the naturally cascading landscape, feature unobstructed sea views and be directly connected to the beach via foliage-shadowed pathways.
Rosewood Clearwater Bay, Hainan will offer a bistro, a beachside grill and bar; and a high-end specialty restaurant. There will be a 320-square-meter (3,444-square-foot) residential-style Pavilion meeting and event space as well as outdoor function areas. Facilities will also include Rosewood’s signature Sense® spa offering six treatment rooms with balconies overlooking private gardens. Other recreational options will include a gym, tennis court, open-air tai chi and yoga deck, recreation center, lap pool and children’s pool.
Highly acclaimed project consultants include Bangkok-based architectural firm Blink Design Group; Singapore-based interior design company Jaya & Associates handling guestrooms and public space; and Bangkok-based TROP landscape architects.
“We are very grateful to CMT for giving us this opportunity to express Rosewood’s A Sense of Place philosophy in this very special location,” said Sonia Cheng. “Their commitment will allow us to create what we believe will become one of the most sought-after destinations for sophisticated visitors to Hainan Island.”
“We’re delighted to partner with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts on our first resort project in mainland China,” said Dr. Telvin Ju, CEO, Project Division, CMT Group. “We look forward to introducing Hainan Island’s next level of luxury to discerning travelers from within China and internationally.”
