Rosewood San Miguel de Allende Celebrates 15 Years of History
Fifteen years in which the hotel has become part of the city’s cultural landscape, seamlessly integrating art, tradition, and hospitality in one of Mexico’s most iconic destinations.
MARCH 27, 2026
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico | March 27, 2026
In San Miguel de Allende, time is experienced in a singular way: church bells set the rhythm of the day, while its iconic cobblestone streets and the golden light of the Bajío transform colonial façades into a stage where history, art, and everyday life coexist in harmony. Within this setting, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende has cultivated, over the past fifteen years, a deeply rooted connection with the city and its visitors.
Since opening in 2011, the hotel has become an integral part of the destination’s cultural fabric—not only through its architecture, inspired by the grand homes of the region, but through the way it has woven art, artisanal tradition, and the creative spirit of San Miguel into every corner of the property. Designed by local artisans, the hotel pays tribute to the city’s historic character through cantera stone archways, handcrafted ironwork railings, and hand-carved wooden doors that evoke its colonial heritage. This dialogue with its surroundings extends to its collection of contemporary Mexican art, featuring works by artists from across the country as well as international creators who have found in San Miguel a place to live and work.
Over the past decade and a half, this connection to the destination has translated into experiences that allow guests to discover the city from within: mojiganga-making workshops, visits to traditional cantinas, cooking classes paired with excursions to local farms, horseback journeys through the landscapes of the Bajío, and exhibitions by Mexican artists—all part of a programming that reflects Rosewood’s A Sense of Place® philosophy. Fifteen years after its opening, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende celebrates its anniversary by reaffirming its unique relationship with the city, its artistic spirit, and the community that has been part of its story.
“This anniversary represents far more than the passage of time. It reflects the relationships we have built with San Miguel de Allende, with our associates, and with those who have placed their trust in us over the past fifteen years. For the entire Rosewood team, it is an honor to carry the name of this city to the world and to continue growing alongside it.” — Monica Ortiz, Managing Director, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende.
An Anniversary that Celebrates the Journey
On March 17, 2026, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende commemorated its anniversary as part of a week of celebrations and activities dedicated to recognizing the people who have been fundamental to its growth and positioning over time: associates—some of whom have been with the property for more than 15 years—as well as artisans, suppliers, foundations, and partners who have been part of the hotel’s journey.
Conceived as a gathering that reflects the property’s creative and collaborative spirit, the evening paid tribute to the relationships that have shaped the hotel since its opening. As a centerpiece of the celebration, a mural by Mexican artist Tanya Talamante was unveiled in collaboration with the Municipality of San Miguel de Allende. Conceived as a permanent artistic intervention in the public space, the work explores the relationship between identity, territory, and collective memory, drawing inspiration from the cultural narratives and creative richness that define the city.
The celebration continued in Jardín Fuente with a cocktail reception where art and artisanal tradition took center stage. Artisans who have collaborated with the hotel since its early days showcased some of their pieces, sharing with guests the craftsmanship that forms part of San Miguel de Allende’s creative spirit. Among the works presented was El Corazón de San Miguel, an 80-centimeter papier-mâché piece by local artist Hermes Arroyo, which was live-intervened by Guadalajara-based artist Juan Carlos Santoscoy. Known for his distinctive tinta hilo technique, Santoscoy combines bold colors, abstract composition, and experimental materials to create visual narratives that explore emotion, movement, and energy.
Following the cocktail reception, guests enjoyed a celebratory dinner conceived as a gastronomic journey through the hotel’s culinary offerings. Each course represented one of the property’s restaurants, creating a narrative that reflected the diversity and contemporary character of Rosewood San Miguel de Allende’s cuisine. Highlights included dishes such as shrimp tartare with tomatillo emulsion, duck confit tamal with green mole, pescado a la talla with green chile, and beef tenderloin with truffle and goat cheese. The evening concluded with a dessert that evoked fresh, seasonal flavors through a green apple mousse with citrus notes. Ingredients used throughout the dinner were sourced from long-standing suppliers who have accompanied the hotel throughout its history, integrating into the culinary experience a symbolic gesture of collaboration and community that has been essential to the property’s journey.
The celebrations also include the participation of artist Daniel Fermín, who presented the exhibition Migraciones, exploring human trajectories and the movements that have shaped history, approaching migration as a profoundly human experience. The exhibition will remain on view in the Casona area of Rosewood San Miguel de Allende for the next three months.
During these days, moments of internal recognition were also held for associates who have been part of the hotel since its opening, celebrating careers spanning more than fifteen years and highlighting their contribution to the spirit of hospitality that defines the property.
Fifteen Years of International Recognition
Since 2011, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende has been consistently recognized by some of the world’s most influential hospitality publications and organizations. The property has maintained the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star distinction for several years, while Sense, A Rosewood Spa® has been awarded Four Stars, establishing itself as one of the most recognized wellness destinations in the country.
In the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025, the hotel was named the #1 Hotel in Mexico and ranked among the Top 100 Hotels in the World, reflecting ongoing recognition from international travelers. Similarly, the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards and U.S. News & World Report rankings have repeatedly placed the property among the best hotels in the country and across the region.
Iconic spaces within the hotel have also received individual recognition. 1826 Tequila Bar, one of the most representative bars in San Miguel de Allende, was honored with the Forbes Travel Guide Hotel Star Bars Award, highlighting its specialized focus on Mexican distillates.
A Commitment that Goes Beyong Hospitality
Rosewood San Miguel de Allende’s presence in the city is also defined by initiatives that strengthen its connection to the destination’s cultural, social, and natural environment. Through Rosewood Impacts, the brand’s global sustainability program, the property advances actions focused on three pillars: the well-being of people, environmental stewardship, and the development of local communities.
As part of these initiatives, the hotel collaborates with local organizations and community-driven projects. During select times of the year, guests have the opportunity to participate in charitable efforts through voluntary donations directed to local associations, supporting a range of causes across the region. The hotel team also engages in volunteer programs that include social, educational, and environmental activities, reinforcing its connection with the city beyond the guest experience.
This connection is also reflected in how the hotel integrates local talent into its daily life: artisans, artists, producers, and creators are an active part of many of the experiences developed within the property. In this way, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende not only welcomes those who visit the city, but also serves as a platform that celebrates and amplifies the creativity and spirit of the region.
Fifteen years after its opening, this relationship with San Miguel continues to evolve, reaffirming the hotel’s intention to grow alongside the city that inspires it.
