Yangon, previously known as Rangoon (Burmese for “end of strife”), is the capital of the Yangon region of Myanmar and the former capital of Burma. In 2006, the capital was moved to Naypyidaw; however, Yangon continues to be the country’s largest city and its commercial hub.
Rosewood Yangon occupies the former New Law Courts on the banks of the Yangon River at the junction of the city’s famous Strand and Sule Pagoda Roads. It is surrounded by a number of heritage buildings and the well-preserved Sule Pagoda. Maha Bandula Gardens, the Nanthida Cruise Terminal and the Yangon Stock Exchange are also all within a few minutes’ walk, making the hotel the perfect base for both leisure and business travelers alike.
