Released 15 January 2025

Rosewood Phnom Penh Art Gallery proudly announces TRANSMISSIONS, a landmark exhibition by celebrated French-Cambodian photographer VuTheara Kham.

TRANSMISSIONS: A Poetic Journey Home

Running from February 20 to April 20, 2025, this extraordinary collection features 36 exclusive photographs captured in Cambodia and Vietnam, marking the artist’s first-ever exhibition in his ancestral homeland. Known for his poetic and evocative imagery, Kham’s work offers a deeply personal exploration of identity, culture, and heritage.

Kham elaborates on his vision: “My work seeks to express the constant and moving dance of people in these places, which embody paradoxical forces: agitation holds a deep calm, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, order conceals chaos. My aim is to bring these scenes to life again, anchoring time and playing with it, narrating life and lives to provide future generations with a fragment of this era.”

A Global Artist Anchored by Khmer Heritage

Born in Normandy and based in Paris, Kham has gained international acclaim for his minimalist, geometric style and “urban poetry.” A passionate traveler, he has collaborated with prestigious clients such as Balenciaga, Mercedes-Benz, Moët & Chandon, and the Paris Opera. Despite his global success, Kham’s connection to Cambodia remains central to his artistic evolution.

Celebrating Cambodia and Southeast Asia

TRANSMISSIONS explores Cambodia’s cultural richness and modern transformation through:

  • A Cambodia in motion, balancing tradition and modernity.

  • The coexistence of ancient temples and cutting-edge architecture.

  • Faces and characters shaping Cambodia’s present and future.

  • The intertwining of time-honored rituals and visionary projects.

Adding depth to this narrative is a mini-series of images from Vietnam, broadening the exhibition’s Southeast Asian context.

A Fitting Venue for a Cultural Milestone

Rosewood Phnom Penh Art Gallery, renowned for its support of artistic expression and its elegant setting, serves as the perfect stage for TRANSMISSIONS. The collaboration underscores the gallery’s mission to celebrate Cambodia’s creative talent and amplify its cultural voice on a global platform.

“This exhibition represents a unique moment of artistic and cultural significance. VuTheara’s work captures the spirit of Cambodia with a modern lens, blending global influence with profound Khmer roots,” says Daniel Simon, Managing Director of Rosewood Phnom Penh. “We are thrilled to host this meaningful homecoming at our gallery.”
