Celebrate The History Of Gin With Rosewood London

This September, Holborn Dining Room, the grand British brasserie located within Rosewood London, will offer a series of weekly gin tasting masterclasses for those looking to broaden their knowledge of the botanical spirit.

Released 15 September 2017

A gin education - £60

Saturdays at 4:00 p.m.

The Gin Education is a perfect introduction to this very British spirit. Guests will learn about its place in London’s history (with over 7,000 gin shops catering to Londoners in the 18 th century, it is no surprise that the spirit’s popularity remains to this day), how gin is made, and how different botanicals help create unique and exciting nuances in flavour. Guests will also sample 4 different gins, which will change regularly throughout the run, with the focus staying on interesting and unique blends.

Classes accommodate up to 10 guests, and will last approximately an hour and a half. They include a welcome gin and tonic on arrival, as well as delicious bar bites delivered straight from Holborn Dining Room's kitchen.

The first set of gins for tasting will be:

Guests are encouraged to stay a while and put their newfound knowledge to use, by trying the new gin cocktails on offer at The Gin Bar. Highlights from the new menu include an homage to the gin shops of the late 1820s, ‘Gin Palace’ - a deliciously smoky combination of East London Barrel Aged gin, Stout, Perique Liqueur and coffee and bacon infused Redeye Miracle Mile bitters - and ‘Gin Lane’, a fresh and floral serve of G’Vine Floraison, Dry Vermouth and Shrub Kiwi & Dill, a fruit liqueur popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. These are joined by ‘Lady Genever’ - a juniper-inspired take on the traditional Sour - and ‘Dutch Courage’, a nod to the bravery-inducing effects of Dutch gin on soldiers during the Thirty Years’ War, which combines Navy Strength Edinburgh Gin with apricot and elderflower liqueurs, lemon juice, pineapple shrub and vanilla bitters.
