Nikka Whisky Takes Over the Whisky Library at Rosewood Phnom Penh

Iconic Japanese distiller Nikka Whisky, exclusively distributed by Moonshine Spirits in Cambodia, will take center stage at Rosewood Phnom Penh’s Whisky Library and Cigar Lounge for the next year.

Released 12 September 2024

Rosewood Phnom Penh is thrilled to announce a one-of-a-kind partnership with Nikka Whisky. In a first for Cambodia, the renowned Japanese brand will take over the Whisky Library for an entire year, starting September 12, 2024. During this exciting collaboration, whisky lovers can immerse themselves in the world of Nikka Whisky, sampling a curated selection of prized single malts, complex blends and rare gems in the comfort of the hotel’s lounge and cigar bar.

Deepening the experience, the Whisky Library will revamp its food and drink menus to highlight the exceptional quality and precision that Japan is known for. At the same time, Sora will be decorated with seasonal flowers in a nod to Japan’s deep connection with nature.

“We are delighted to partner with Nikka Whisky – a brand that embodies the same dedication to craftsmanship and cultural heritage as we do here at Rosewood Phnom Penh,” says Daniel Simon, Managing Director of Rosewood Phnom Penh. “With this year-long collaboration, we look forward to offering our guests a refined drinking experience at the Whisky Library, as well as a deeper connection to the history and traditions that make Nikka Whisky so unique.”

Established by Japanese chemist and businessman Masataka Taketsuru – considered the founding father of Japanese whisky – Nikka Whisky is the flagship brand of one of the country’s most revered distillers. After a trip to Scotland in 1918, where he learned the secrets of whisky making, Taketsuru began a lifelong mission to develop a genuine malt whisky tradition in Japan. In 1934, he opened his first distillery in Yoichi, along Hokkaido’s western shores, and released the debut Nikka Whisky six years later. Since then, the brand’s single malt expressions and full-flavored blends have earned many accolades in the world’s top whisky and spirits awards.

“We thank Rosewood Phnom Penh for kindly providing this fantastic opportunity in Cambodia,” said Daichi Kagawa, representative of Nikka Whisky. “As we celebrate our 90th anniversary this year, we are delighted to be able to collaborate with the hotel by sharing our story and passion through our spirits.”

The Whisky Library is the perfect fit for a Nikka Whisky takeover. Awash in dark woods and leather furniture, the warm and handsome lounge is home to Cambodia's largest selection of single malt whiskies. In this versatile space, whisky enthusiasts can enjoy intimate tasting sessions at the dedicated counter overlooking the Phnom Penh skyline, or sink into a plush armchair and catch up with friends over a dram.

The year-long Nikka Whisky takeover will kick off Rosewood Phnom Penh’s first annual “Taste of Cambodia” event. Taking place from 12 to 15 September, the inaugural series features several immersive food and drink experiences across the hotel’s dining outlets. From guest shifts at Sora to four-hand dinners at Zhan Liang, Rosewood Phnom Penh’s premium Chinese restaurant, each culinary journey celebrates Cambodia’s warm hospitality, innovative spirit and unforgettable flavors.

The Whisky Library is located on Level 37 of Rosewood Phnom Penh and is open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight.
