Rosewood Bangkok launches new “Sense of Ramayana” Afternoon Tea inspired by the ancient epic

The Sense of Ramayana Afternoon Tea is available from now until 30 November 2023 at Lakorn European Brasserie.

An avid gastronome, Sarran is better known for highlighting gender equality in Thailand through the use of flowers in his jewelry designs – works of art which have won him numerous local and international accolades including the first Thai winner of the LOOT Acquisition Prize 2018 by Museum of Arts and Design New York.

The multi-award-winning designer knows the Ramayana story well, having used it as inspiration for his signature collection titled “Ramayana”. Working closely with the hotel’s culinary team, Sarran crafted an afternoon tea experience alongside Chef Dustin and Chef Frank, highlighting six elements styled after main characters in the Ramayana epic:

Wood Element

Inspired by Rama, the central protagonist of the Ramayana and a virtuous prince known for his perseverance and devotion to duty. Warm and crunchy, Wood Element dishes include Spinach & Pea Frittata served with Organic Bread, Water Cress, and Mustard Mayo.

Water Element

Inspired by Suvannamaccha, the beautiful daughter of the demon king and a fish princess known for her serene and captivating beauty. Cooling foods including Citrus Sorbet, as well as seafood such as Home Cured Salmon Roll, represent the Water Element.

Wind Element

Inspired by Hanuman, the fun-loving and playful monkey deity who travels on clouds, re-interpreted with crispy and light bites such as White Chocolate Cloud and Crispy Bacon served with Air Light Bread.

Fire Element

Inspired by Ravana, infamous for abducting Rama’s wife Sita. The demon king is represented with hot, spicy, and charred including Exotic Fruit Tart with Chili Mango Jam, and Grilled Beef Tenderloin Wellington with Paprika Duxelles.

Gold Element

Inspired by Sita, the noble princess known for her resilience and unwavering devotion. Sophisticated and surprising dishes include Croque Madame, topped with Truffle Manchego, Bechamel, Ham, Caviar, and Crouton.

Earth Element

Inspired by Mandodari, Ravana’s queen, recognized for her wisdom and compassion. Root vegetables and the piquant aromas of the Earth Element reflect her sense of warmth and staying grounded with creations such as Chicken Liver Parfait with Charcoal Bread, Berry & Roots Chutney.

Completing the Sense of Ramayana afternoon tea set are Honey Madeleine and Cranberry Vanilla Scones served with Passion Fruit Banana Jam.

At the afternoon tea experience, guests can learn which element best represents their individuality. The dishes are presented in a meaningful order, depending on whether each guest wishes to balance their element, or stay in their element.
