Rosewood London Announces Summer Terrace with The Botanist Gin

This June, Rosewood London is proud to announce a collaboration with The Botanist gin, which has inspired the construction of a beautiful summer greenhouse in the middle of the hotel’s famous courtyard.

Released 6 June 2018

Hand-crafted and distilled on the Scottish island of Islay, The Botanist is a truly unique gin. Nine classic botanicals are augmented with 22 local herbs and flowers, all foraged responsibly by hand by botanical scientists from the hills, shores and marshes of the Hebridean island. With The Gin Bar, located within Holborn Dining Room, housing over 530 gins, the expert team there has used their extensive knowledge of botanicals to create a bespoke cocktail menu. Served exclusively in The Botanist Greenhouse, the drinks have been mixed to complement the complex flavours of The Botanist – from apple mint to coriander and citrus, to honey from thistle, coconut from gorse and wild mint – the menu covers a range of tastes which are sure to cater to any visiting forager’s preferences.

Highlights from the new menu include: ‘Loch Indaal,’ a remake of the classic Dry Martini cocktail using The Botanist gin, Octomore Whisky and salt solution. A mineral stone is used as a garnish to commemorate the water of the Loch Indaal, and as a nod towards its use in the making of Octomore Whisky. This adds a natural mineral note that interacts with the botanical flavours of the gin. The Loch Indaal sits alongside ‘The Quest,’ a mix of refreshing flavours from around the world including The Botanist Gin, Green Chartreuse, zesty Yuzu juice, topped with angostura bitters and ‘The Odyssey,’ combining The Botanist Gin infused with cardamom, lime, Italicus and rooibos tea - a concoction so delicious it has been designed for two to share.

Those less partial to gin are invited to sample non-gin based cocktails including ‘Breakfast in Milan’ - Cointreau, Cointreau Blood Orange, Campari, topped with grapefruit soda – and a ‘Baha Mar Breeze’, a tropical combination of Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum, Crème de Banane, lime, anise syrup and pineapple juice. Lastly, the ‘Kilted Margarita’ incorporates the use of foraging by muddling fresh herbs with red chilli, lime juice, Cointreau, and Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila. This lively cocktail is served on the rocks with a dried herb salted rim.

Guests will be able to choose their own garnishes using botanicals and fresh herbs which will be placed on each table as a centrepiece, as well as around the Greenhouse for guests to forage and find, including: chamomile, lavender, mint, oregano, rosemary, lemon balm, thyme, fresh dill, dried citrus (blood orange, lemon, lime, pink grapefruit), as well as pineapple, apple, pear, and other spices such as pink peppercorn, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a selection of seasonal edible flowers. The interactive experience inside The Botanist Greenhouse allows guests to immerse themselves with all elements of Islay, and discover how to compose a unique interpretation of the perfect G&T. An extensive selection of beers and wines will also be available, including an extensive list of Rosé wines, such as Whispering Angel Rosé available by the glass, carafe, bottle and magnum, Garnus 2010 Rosé and the Chateau Musar Rosé 2004.

Nourishment will be supplied by Holborn Dining Room’s kitchen, with dishes including the award-winning Monkshill Farm scotch egg, a chicken and tarragon pie, and shrimp burger with jalapeno tartare. Lighter options will include a courgette, ricotta and dandelion salad and summer vegetable & spelt risotto, served with Berkswell cheese. A selection of fresh fish will also be available from the seafood counter.

In addition, to celebrate World Gin Day on Saturday 9th June, the Greenhouse will be the venue for a masterclass hosted by The Botanist brand ambassador Abigail Clephane, including a gin masterclass and talk about foraging.

The Botanist Greenhouse will be open from 5 th June to 29 th September, Monday to Saturday from 12:00 noon through 10:30 p.m., Sunday from 12:00 noon through 10:00 p.m., and will be available to guests on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reservations can be made for groups of six or more.
