Holborn Dining Room & The Pie Room Celebrate British Pie Week with a Nod to Tradition: Pie, Mash, and Liquor
This British Pie Week (3rd–9th March), Holborn Dining Room at Rosewood London, is diving deep into the heart of London’s culinary history by celebrating the iconic tradition of Pie, Mash, and Liquor. Paying tribute to London’s rich Cockney heritage, the restaurant is launching a limited offering that embraces the cultural significance of this beloved British dish.
Pie, Mash, and Liquor have been an essential part of London’s food culture since the early 1800s. Originating in the pre-Dickensian era, this humble yet hearty meal emerged from the abundance of eels found in the River Thames. Originally served as eel pies, the dish was later adapted to include minced beef and vegetables to suit evolving tastes. Regardless of its changing ingredients, Pie, Mash, and Liquor have remained a symbol of London’s resilience and community spirit.
As a nod to this history, Head Pie Maker, Nokx Majozi and Head Chef at Holborn Dining Room, Ilona Perczyk, will be making two limited edition pies: British Beef Short Rib & Bone Marrow Pie and Curried Lamb Pie & Chilli Caper Raita using traditional British pie-making techniques, crafted with carefully selected ingredients and flavours. The restaurant’s renowned vegetarian pie, Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese & Potato Pie featuring truffle and caramelised onion will also be part of this celebratory week. To make it even more special, each pie will be accompanied by endless servings of mash and an authentic parsley liquor, making this week a true celebration of British craftsmanship.
Executive Pastry Chef Mark Perkins will be creating his very own classic dessert to complete the perfect British meal, guests can enjoy a Rhubarb & Custard Tart made with almond frangipane, vanilla cream and Yorkshire rhubarb compote.
Additionally, The Pie Room at Holborn Dining Room will offer these specials for takeaway from The Pie Hole during British Pie Week, from Monday 3rd March to Friday 7th March, between the hours of 11 AM and 3 PM. Pies can be conveniently pre-ordered via the online shop for easy collection, allowing passersby to pick up these beautifully crafted pastry creations directly from the street-side hatch.
Rosewood London is also offering the chance to win a private Pie Masterclass in The Pie Room for up to 6 guests. To participate, follow Holborn Dining Room’s social media during British Pie Week.
