Rosewood Mayakoba Appoints New Bar Director
Rosewood Mayakoba, the award-winning luxury resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, has appointed celebrated mixologist Joshua Monaghan as bar director for the property. A Mexico native, Monaghan will primarily oversee Zapote Bar, the hotel’s chef-driven cocktail destination that opened in 2020.
Riviera Maya, Mexico – Rosewood Mayakoba, the award-winning luxury resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, has appointed celebrated mixologist Joshua Monaghan as bar director for the property. A Mexico native, Monaghan will primarily oversee Zapote Bar, the hotel’s chef-driven cocktail destination that opened in 2021.
Monaghan brings a decade of experience to Rosewood Mayakoba. Born and raised in Léon, Guanajuato, he spent the majority of his career creating cocktails between the Yucatán Peninsula and Mexico City. Prior to his appointment, he spent the past three years at Fifty Mils, the innovative cocktail concept at Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City that is consistently recognized as one of the best bars in the country. Throughout his career Monaghan has built a reputation for precision, craft and creativity and won cocktail competitions including Tornea Telampago de Cocteleria, XXV Juegos Gastrohoteleros, Havana and Cocktails Online Tournament by Cointreau, 2020. He has been recognized as a one of Mexico’s Best Bartenders by the Bartenders Awards.
At Rosewood Mayakoba, Monaghan will work alongside culinary director Juan Pablo Loza and assume the role of head bartender at Zapote Bar. Developed as a love letter to the Yucatán, Zapote is guided by the principles of gracious service and quality cocktails using Mayan ingredients, tools, and techniques. The craft cocktail destination was brought to life last year by Loza in collaboration with the award-winning team at Licoreria Limantour in Mexico City.
