The Art of Living Together: Rosewood Phnom Penh Presents "Complementarity" Art Exhibition Celebrating Harmony and Humanity

Centering around the primary theme of “ complementarity,” or “convivialisme,” which the artists describe as “the art of living together,” the exhibition delivers a message of social harmony, empathy, compassion, ethics and responsibility. Under the umbrella of complementarity, the artists will explore 11 compelling themes, including Human Chaos, Femininity and Masculinity, Violence in Contrast, Parenthood, Empathy/Compassion and Vulnerability, amongst others – all of which communicate their vision for a more empathetic, supportive, generous and caring world. “The black and white, the yin and yang, all coexist in a state of equilibrium giving the right balance to the universe,” as the artists explain.

Raised in a multicultural family in Cambodia, Adana Mam Legros is passionate about creating a better, brighter world. Between her parents' social work and her own battle with cancer, Adana understood that activism and art would always be two of the most important aspects of her life. Since 2018, she has exhibited all over the world, from New York to Paris, Australia, Brussels and Bangkok.

For this exhibition, Adana’s geometric acrylic paintings borrow inspiration from scientific fields such as neuroscience and sociology. “I use my works to convey very complicated and necessary messages related to the state of our planet and civilization,” says Adana. “I not only tap into spiritual and philosophical questioning through my work but also political and social matters.”

Meanwhile, Phnom Penh-based portrait artist Tytaart showcases her intimate and fine art photography series. In this compelling project, Tytaart captures her friends and strangers in unexpected, evocative ways. Tytaart works with natural light, drawing inspiration from the way in which highlights and shadow balance one another, with a strong focus on the beauty of humanity.

“When I am shooting, all parts of me – the body, the mind, and the heart – are driving toward one goal,” “Whilst my eyes are looking for the frame, my hands are also moving at the same time. Sometimes, when I get a really good frame where all the compositions complement each other, I feel a certain kind of euphoria.”

Tytaart

During the exhibition, Adana Mam Legros will officially launch another project: Generation C Cambodia. With the “C” standing for Convivialisme (the art of living together), the socially driven artistic movement aims to encourage new ways of thinking, placing a greater emphasis on collaboration, compassion and social responsibility. To add another layer of collaboration and excitement, the artists have invited two Cambodia-based fashion designers, Eric Raisina and Romyda Keth, to showcase a collection of 10 exquisite dresses.
