San Miguel de Allende, MX (April 24, 2024) – Zapote Bar, the cocktail spot at ultra-luxury resort Rosewood Mayakoba in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, has been honored for the third year in a row as one of the 50 Best Bars in North America.

The inaugural North America list ranked Zapote Bar at No. 11 in the highly anticipated regional competition helmed by World's 50 Best Bars sponsored by Perrier where it also earned the London Essence “Best New Opening” award for 2022 followed by another win in the same ranking as No. 11 in the 2023 Awards.

This year's awards ceremony took place in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and other bars in the top ten include Handshake Speakeasy (No. 1), Superbueno (No.2), Overstory (No. 3), and Martiny’s (No. 4). The full list can be viewed here: https://www.theworlds50best.com/bars/northamerica/list/1-50

"It's an absolute honor to be included in the third edition of North America 50 Best Bar Awards and we are humbled to be recognized with this remarkable ranking since our debut," says Christian González, Resort Manager of Rosewood Mayakoba. "When we created Zapote Bar, we wanted to introduce a new destination for cocktail craftsmanship in the Yucatán – a passionate tribute to Riviera Maya's rich and renowned ingredients while showcasing what is at the forefront of bar techniques and presentation, all rooted in thoughtful hospitality. This accolade is a testament to that vision and the tremendous talent of both our incredible team and the creativity and guidance of our Bar Director Joshua Monaghan."

Notes Monaghan, “It’s a true honor to be included among this talented roster, many of whom we are lucky enough to call friends. Each and every day we are excited to share the Zapote experience with our guests, especially our new Call of the Wild menu where we explore the Mayan wildlife and folklore. It represents our history as well as the bar’s evolution as we expand the cocktail program with this new inspiration.”

Opened in February 2021, Zapote Bar represents a blend of sophisticated Mexican artisanship and the conviviality of hacienda culture. The name nods to the mamey fruit of the Zapote tree, which in Mayan tradition, is a symbol of hospitality. The day-to-night destination was designed as Rosewood Mayakoba’s love letter to the Yucatán Peninsula where craft cocktails, bespoke spirits, and warm Mexican hospitality pay homage to the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Developed under the leadership of former managing director Daniel Scott, Zapote Bar is currently overseen by award-winning Bar Director Joshua Monaghan. Under his tutelage, every week Zapote Bar welcomes a mix of established and emerging bar talent from across Mexico and the globe as part of its Martes de Locales guest bartender series, which celebrates community, collaboration, and creativity within the industry.
