New ownership of Santa Fe’s most lauded boutique hotel to elevate offerings with Michael Schlow F&B, extensive new wine cellar and premium scotch program, art concierge, expanded spa and more

Hospitality veteran and investor Brian Friedman has acquired Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Long considered the shining gem of Santa Fe, located steps from the historic Santa Fe Plaza, the ultra-luxury property is an intimate world-class retreat that has set the standard for luxury and service among small city hotels.

Friedman, a seasoned hospitality leader and decades-long admirer of the property, confirmed that plans for the award-winning hotel are to keep it “authentic,” he said, with new inclusions that only elevate the dining, art and service experiences “that will carry it into the future, assuring its longevity and legacy.”

In addition to Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi’s already impressive interiors and accommodations, intuitive service, and more, the hotel has brought James Beard Award winning chef and restaurateur Michael Schlow aboard to oversee the creation of a new, internationally inspired culinary experience. Schlow will work in collaboration with the Inn’s Executive Chef, Peter O’Brien.

Additionally, an exciting new wine program will feature a state-of-the-art cellar filled with rare and flavorful vintages sourced from all over the world, as well as selections from local rising star purveyors. Plans also call for premium scotch and caviar tasting programs, and afternoon tea service.

Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi will also continue to pay homage to the vibrant and lively art scene that flourishes throughout the area, but now, with a more immersive approach. To execute on the new vision, Friedman has secured renowned local art advisor and gallerist Victoria Addison of the prestigious Addison Rowe Gallery. Guests and visitors will enjoy a rotating collection of works by important artists that showcase the versatility of Santa Fe’s thriving art scene, inclusive of modern, contemporary, and historic pieces. A related amenity will be an Art Concierge on staff to curate private gallery tours and personalized experiences to expand visitors’ understanding of Southwest art.

Additionally, Graham King, owner and founder of Urban Athletic Club, has been tapped to expand the health club offerings, with a focus not only on innovative classes and top-of-the-line equipment (such as Peloton bikes) but also on wellness and integrative therapies.

“This is a place that I’ve loved since childhood when my mother first brought me here as a young boy,” said Friedman, who started his career working with Ian Schrager, Alex Calderwood, and Andrew Zobler. Friedman will soon be announcing additional hotel acquisitions, all sharing a common focus, that of historically significant, iconic, and/or one-of-a-kind classic properties. “I see the Inn as a gathering place for both visitors and locals,” Friedman noted. “This property is something that will remain with my family for generations to come, ensuring it always receives the love and attention it deserves.”

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will continue overseeing management and operations of the 58-room property, which offers suites beautifully designed to complement the property’s legendary décor and architecture. This team will continue to be led by Lutz Arnhold, managing director, Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi, as well as all of the existing staff. “We are thrilled to work with our new owners, who are committed to taking Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi to even greater heights,” said Arnhold. “There is an incredible amount of energy, creativity, and excitement at the Inn currently, and we look forward to working with Brian to elevate the guest experience.”

Santa Fe Mayor Alan M. Webber added, “I’m excited to see that new investors believe in Santa Fe’s hotel industry as much as we do. Santa Fe continues to win important awards as one of the top tourist destinations in the world and we look forward to continuing that tradition and celebrating the record of excellence at the Inn of the Anasazi for years to come.”

About Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi

Located in downtown Santa Fe, steps from the historic Santa Fe Plaza, Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi ® is an intimate world-class vacation retreat and New Mexico’s most lauded hotel. Since it was established in 1991, the Inn has set the standard for luxury and service among small city hotels. The 58-room boutique hotel unveiled a full guestroom reimagination in 2014 to embrace a more modern, sophisticated aesthetic, while still celebrating the enduring creative spirit of the region’s Native Americans. The guestroom design beautifully complements the Inn’s legendary décor and architecture, including works by local artisans, massive hand-carved doors, sculptured stairways and sandstone walls that whisper of prehistoric Pueblo living. The world-renowned Anasazi Restaurant boasts a chic design as well as an inviting lounge area and dedicated tequila table. The restaurant’s menus epitomize modern Southwestern cuisine, featuring the strong ingredients and flavors of the Southwest. Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi has been honored four times with the prestigious AAA Four-Diamond Award, the highest accolade presented by AAA to hotels and restaurants based on facilities, amenities and service. Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi has additionally been recognized as the best hotel in Downtown Santa Fe in Forbes Travel Guide’s 2019 Star Ratings List and was named one of the “Top Hotels in the Southwest and West” by Condé Nast Traveler.
