A Commitment to Responsible Luxury
At Rosewood Hotel Group, our vision is to forge a future where communities and destinations mutually enrich one another. We dedicate ourselves to empowering every facet of our ecosystem by ensuring equal access to opportunities, while embracing a sustainability model that places circular hospitality at the heart of our operations. We gauge our success by the impactful contributions we make through our initiatives, Rosewood Empowers and Rosewood Sustains.
Sustaining Communities at Rosewood Luang Prabang
Uplifting livelihoods through local partnerships lies at the heart of our impact journey. At Rosewood Luang Prabang we believe that by joining forces with community organizations, local businesses, and grassroots leaders, we can launch transformative initiatives that empower individuals and strengthen communities. Through our volunteer programs and dedicated donation drives, we proactively deliver essential resources to enhance the well-being of our partners and the communities they look after. Partners include:
Finally, enabling our guests to join our impact journey through a series of experiences such as visits to the ethical Manda Lao Elephant Sanctuary or meeting with Laotian craftsmen during day activities is part of our goal to sustain communities. By investing in local relationships, we ensure that our efforts to uplift livelihoods translate into real, lasting change - enriching lives today while building a more inclusive future for tomorrow.
Conservation and Sustainability Initiatives
Rosewood Sustains exemplifies our dedication to nurturing a responsible lifestyle ecosystem by integrating circular hospitality and safeguarding our environment for future generations. Our evolving business and operational strategies reflect the critical urgency of protecting and regenerating nature. Key environmental initiatives include:
Partners in Provenance at The Great House: A Testament to Sustainable Dining
At Rosewood Luang Prabang, sustainability and cultural authenticity are ingrained in the essence of The Great House, the resort’s signature restaurant that artfully blends Western and Laotian cuisine. This dining venue stands as a testament to responsible sourcing, traditional craftsmanship, and environmental stewardship. Central to our philosophy is Partners in Provenance - a program that forges close ties with local farmers, fishermen, and artisanal producers. This commitment guarantees that at least 80% of our ingredients are sourced locally and sustainably from within Laos, infusing every dish with A Sense of Place®. Another 10% would be sourced from Southeast Asia.

In addition:
Rosewood Luang Prabang's dedication to supporting the community extends to championing the local artisan community and preserving traditional crafts. The hotel actively supports Lao Pottery House, incorporating their distinctive, locally crafted ceramics into the guest experience. This partnership not only showcases unique Lao artistry but also crucially aids in the preservation of traditional pottery techniques and supports the transmission of this valuable cultural knowledge to future generations. Similarly, the hotel collaborates with the Porsaa Learning Center & Art Gallery. This partnership provides elegant menu covers and other paper goods crafted from traditional Lao saa paper. Derived from the bark of the mulberry bush, which grows abundantly and rapidly in Northern Laos, saa paper represents a truly sustainable and renewable resource, aligning perfectly with the resort's environmental ethos. Guests at Rosewood Luang Prabang can also take part in a Saa Paper Workshop to learn about this craft first-hand.
The GSTC Certification
Rosewood Hotel Group has proudly received multisite sustainability certification by Bureau Veritas, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council-Accredited Certification Body (“GSTC”) covering 47 properties across its three brands - Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, New World Hotels & Resorts, and Carlyle & Co. The certification was preceded by successful thorough audits conducted by Bureau Veritas. This marks another milestone in the Group’s journey to create a positive impact on people and planet through its business, enabling access to opportunities for everyone in its ecosystem, and embracing circular hospitality and responsible tourism, thus paving the way for the group to become a purpose-led business. The certification verified that the Group’s operational standards and guest experiences align with four key GSTC Criteria: effective sustainable management, social and economic benefits for local communities, preservation of cultural heritage, and environmental responsibility. A key differentiator of the Group’s ethos is its commitment that sustainability and social impact initiatives are not mandates but core pillars, in which each property embraces every detail — from eco-conscious culinary creations and educational guest programming to sustainable design elements alongside those that celebrate local heritage and artistry, to partnerships that uplift local livelihoods. Every property of Rosewood Hotel Group embodies a commitment to the planet and its people that strive to continue building a future where people and place enrich each other. The GSTC certification is a result of efforts steered by Rosewood Impacts, the group’s roadmap for delivering positive impact on all its communities and our shared planet, which reflects the Group’s ambition to become a purpose-led organization.
About Rosewood Luang Prabang
Designed by the acclaimed Bill Bensley, Rosewood Luang Prabang is a destination where history and luxury converge. Nestled within a riverside setting, the 23-key estate—comprising Riverside Rooms and Suites, Riverside Villas, Waterfall Pool Villas, and signature Hilltop Tents—reflects the timeless elegance of a bygone era. Under Bensley’s vision, the resort was meticulously restored in accordance with UNESCO guidelines, preserving its original Lao structures and historical character. Anchored by a cascading natural waterfall, the estate features The Great House and The Elephant Bridge Bar, perched above the river where elephants once waded. The resort tells a story of cultural fusion and adventure, drawing inspiration from the history of French explorers in Laos. This narrative is reflected in the eclectic mix of design elements, from vintage travel trunks and antique furnishings to maps and other artifacts that make each accommodation distinctive, blending French colonial aesthetics with Laotian artistry and craftsmanship. The Hilltop Tents, in particular, present décor that reflects a different aspect of Laotian culture through its local tribes. This thematic approach adds a layer of intrigue and personalization, turning each stay into a unique experience. A resort unlike any other, Rosewood Luang Prabang offers an intimate and immersive stay in the proximity of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, redefining experiential luxury through a sense of adventure.
