Montecito, CA (December 4, 2025) - The Manor Bar at Rosewood Miramar Beach unveils the fifth chapter in its acclaimed cocktail anthology with the debut of Chronicles of Cocktails, Volume V: California’s Greatest Adventure. Under the direction of Bar Director Eliza Hoar, the latest volume expands upon The Manor Bar’s signature literary theme, this time journeying beyond the pages and into the landscapes, sounds, and stories that define California.

A tasting road trip up the Golden State, with a map as its menu, California’s Greatest Adventure draws inspiration from works of art—literature, lyrics, and screen plays—that capture the essence of California’s artistic spirit. From a creative perspective, each cocktail began with an ingredient native to an iconic sight or locale within the state, then connected that ingredient to a work of art to inform its narrative and composition. The resulting menu riffs on classic cocktails to create a sensory map of California, evoking rugged coastal cliffs, towering redwoods, and neon-lit boulevards, told through flavor, texture, and imagination.

“For me, a cocktail should feel like a journey, and California is a state that tells its story through art—poetry, novels, music, and even the ingredients that grow in its soil,” says Hoar. “With Volume V, we wanted to honor that spirit by letting each cocktail be a chapter in the state’s larger story. It’s both a celebration of place and a reminder of how creativity is woven into California’s DNA.”

The Manor Bar’s road trip unfolds from Southern California to the northern redwoods, spotlighting iconic locations and cultural touchstones along the way. Menu highlights include:

• Big Sur (Monkey 47, lemon, cinchona bark, egg white) – Inspired by Jack Kerouac’s poem of the same name, this gin-based sour evokes the wild serenity of California’s central coast through herbal and mineral notes, pine and fern.
• Sitting on the Dock of the Bay (Appleton Estate, Cynar, lemon, artichoke honey) – A nod to Otis Redding’s timeless tune famously performed at the Monterey Pop Festival, echoing the region’s misty calm and rhythmic beauty.
• Joy Luck Club (St. George Vodka, T’maro Date, lemon juice, dandelion) – Hand selected by Godmothers, a local independent bookshop that Rosewood Miramar Beach partners with regularly. A tribute to Amy Tan’s beloved San Francisco novel, blending delicate, layered flavors reflective of heritage and resilience.

When developing the cocktails, Hoar explored the confluence of cocktails and culinary. Keeping with California, and Rosewood’s eye towards sustainability, several cocktails repurpose savory elements from the kitchen including a house made pickle brine, sourdough scraps, and leftover oil from marinated olives to create a spice-infused fat wash. Always focused on community and inclusivity, 10 of the 12 the menu’s cocktails have non-alcoholic versions, alter egos named after the artists, such as Kerouac, Redding, and Tupac utilizing spirit-free products such as Lyre’s, Seedlip, and Pentire.

With California’s Greatest Adventure, The Manor Bar continues to elevate its role as both a cocktail destination and cultural salon—where craftsmanship meets storytelling and the cocktail becomes a medium of exploration.
