Tonlé to Treeline: A Journey Through Cambodia’s Living Landscapes

Explore Cambodia’s living landscapes through an artistic journey from the waterways to the wild forests—brought to life through contemporary paintings and sculptures by three talented artists: Anya Minko, Ouk Vichet, and Hom Rith.

March 18, 2026

Rosewood Phnom Penh is honored to present Tonlé to Treeline, a new exhibition celebrating the depth and diversity of Cambodia’s natural environments through the works of two distinguished Cambodian artists — Hom Rith and Ouk Vichet — alongside Australian artist and curator Anya Minko. Together, their works create a contemplative journey from river to forest, reflecting the spirit, memory, and ecology of Cambodia’s landscapes.

At the heart of the exhibition are the contributions of Hom Rith, a self-taught watercolor artist from Kampot, whose delicate, atmospheric compositions capture the quiet poetry of Cambodia’s lesser-seen natural habitats. Having worked professionally since 2008, Rith brings an intimate sensitivity to his scenes, using soft washes and restrained detail to highlight biodiversity, subtle environmental changes, and the gentle rhythms of daily life. His works invite viewers into a space of calm observation and deepened appreciation for the natural world.

Alongside him, Ouk Vichet, one of Cambodia’s leading contemporary sculptors, presents powerful works shaped from metal, stone, and reclaimed materials. A graduate of the Royal University of Fine Arts and a long-standing educator, Vichet transforms raw material into expressive sculptural forms that speak to resilience, heritage, and renewal. His practice, influenced early by the Peace Art Project Cambodia, bridges traditional symbolism and contemporary expression, adding a compelling three-dimensional presence to the exhibition.

Supporting and connecting these Cambodian voices is the curatorial direction of Anya Minko, who has lived in Cambodia since 1996. Minko’s acrylic paintings introduce themes of movement, atmosphere, and sensory memory, offering an abstracted emotional response to the landscapes she has grown up with. Her curatorial approach gently guides visitors through the exhibition’s geographical arc — from the Tonlé Sap region to upland forest terrain — while ensuring that the spotlight remains on the local artists whose work deeply reflects Cambodia’s cultural and environmental identity.

Tonlé to Treeline presents a harmonious interplay of watercolor, metal sculpture, and acrylic painting — three mediums, three perspectives, and one shared reverence for the land. Together, the artists’ works honour Cambodia’s living landscapes while inviting reflection on stewardship, connection, and the changing environments that shape community and culture.

"We are proud to showcase the remarkable talent of Cambodian artists in this exhibition. 'Tonlé to Treeline' demonstrates Rosewood Phnom Penh’s strong commitment to celebrating local creativity by highlighting works that honor Cambodia’s landscapes, stories, and artistic spirit,”
