Roland Hamberger named "Hotelier of the Year 2026"

Falstaff Travel Honours the Managing Director of Rosewood Vienna

April 20, 2026

A defining moment for one of luxury hospitality's most influential figures in Europe: Roland Hamberger, Managing Director of Rosewood Vienna, has been named Falstaff Travel's "Hotelier of the Year 2026." Announced on the occasion of the Falstaff Hotel Guide 2026, the annual publication distinguishing the finest hotels across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol. The accolade celebrates exceptional figures within the international hospitality industry. It pays tribute to leaders who, through vision, innovation and extraordinary hospitality, are redefining the standards of the craft.

I simply love what I do. I am a host out of the deepest conviction and passion. For 28 years, I have had the privilege of living my true calling in this wonderful industry, right here in Vienna. That this is now recognized with this award moves me deeply. And most importantly, I am incredibly proud of my wonderful team, who share and live this passion with me every single day.

This year, the distinction is bestowed upon a hotelier who, like few others, embodies the seamless interplay of luxury and cultural authenticity. The jury particularly commended Roland Hamberger's singular ability to unite luxurious hospitality with cultural identity, thereby setting a new benchmark for contemporary hospitality.

A legacy of Vision and Viennese Hospitality

Since opening its doors in August 2022, Rosewood Vienna has swiftly established itself as one of the most compelling addresses in European luxury hospitality. Roland Hamberger has played a defining role in that ascent, assuming the position of Managing Director in August 2023, one year after the hotel's debut. His leadership is clear, precise and guided by an intuitive sensibility for places, people and the experiences that bring them together.

About Rosewood Vienna

Rosewood Vienna is a tribute to the heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary culture of the Austrian capital. Once the home of Mozart and later the seat of a prominent bank, the hotel unfolds across four meticulously restored 19th-century buildings in the heart of the Old Town. The interiors balance lustrous grandeur with local artistry, a vision carried throughout the 103 elegantly appointed rooms and suites. The richness of Viennese culture reveals itself both within the hotel and just beyond its threshold. At the restaurant and bar Neue Hoheit, familiar flavours meet modern accents, while THE1835 captivates with panoramic views and artisanal cocktails. Only steps away, guests discover urban vineyards and exclusive after-hours museum tours. For moments of restoration, Asaya Spa offers revitalising, herb-based treatments.
