The Butterfly Room Flutters To Great Heights
Rosewood Hong Kong’s elegant all-day lounge beckons with a modern take on high tea
Stunning verre églomisé glass and bronze sash screens by New-York based artist Lisa Stimpson mark the gilded entrance to The Butterfly Room, Rosewood Hong Kong’s elegantly inviting all-day lounge destination. Through the looking glass of etched flora and fauna, guests enter a world of whimsy with décor that speaks of comfort, charm and restrained luxury, courtesy of a winning accent on masterful contemporary art and custom furnishings by visionary design maestro Tony Chi.
Nestled amidst Italian leather and pale green velvet Mobius chairs by furniture masters Giorgetti, patrons are invited to luxuriate in style. On the differentiated menu, an enticing array of refined sweet and savoury creations caters to discerning palates from the day through to the night. Establishing the theme of residential luxury found throughout Rosewood Hong Kong, three butterfly-themed works by British conceptual artist Damien Hirst - from his vivid “Zodiac” series - imbue The Butterfly Room with artful significance.
At The Butterfly Room, diners are invited to enjoy everything from simply elegant continental breakfasts to chic coffee breaks and sophisticated pre-dinner drinks. Afternoon Tea is a show-stopping highlight, as patrons are transported to some of Europe’s most exquisite tea rooms with a glamourous and modern progression of savoury bites and finger sandwiches followed by fluffy homemade scones, irresistible pastries and indulgent confections by resident pastry maestro and Area Executive Pastry Chef, Asia, at Rosewood Holger Deh.
The Butterfly Room’s tea selection is of particular note, showcasing an extensive range of speciality teas, attended by personable service.
As night falls, The Butterfly Room undergoes a metamorphosis, re-emerging as an elevated, quietly pulsating lounge in which to enjoy Champagne, tea-themed cocktails and customisable gin and tonics with small bites and cheese plates; establishing itself as one of Kowloon’s most vibrant and compelling destinations for the city’s aficionados and visiting guests alike.
All-Day Delights
For breakfast, patrons of The Butterfly Room are invited to choose from beloved continental options, an international patisserie selection or opulent upgrades for a delectable start to each day. Afternoon tea is an inspired experience complete with delicious, refined bites and sandwiches, mouth-watering, freshly baked scones and expertly crafted confections, while an all-day menu highlights savoury fare for added diversity. Come evening, The Butterfly Room becomes a choice destination for a chilled glass of Champagne or an expertly prepared gin and tonic from the G&T trolley. Here, guests are invited to customise their libation with a differentiated selection of curated gins, and botanical micro herbs and edible flowers.
A plush cocoon
Within the luxurious confines of The Butterfly Room itself, panache takes centre stage: classical European geometric marble floors are flanked by statuesque coconut wood columns, towering custom chrome floor lamps and French pendant lights lined with copper mesh.
Past the whimsical floral-inspired glass and bronze sash windows by Brooklyn-based artisan Lisa Stimpson, diners will discover a welcoming space furnished with Italian leather and velvet seating, pastel-hued lacquered mint and ivory wall panels and draped sheer Roman blinds. The Butterfly Room plays host to a trio of artworks by lauded British conceptual artist Damian Hirst – with the Zodiac series featuring butterflies central to glossy, circular pops of colour on canvas.
The dream team
The Butterfly Room is set to become a go-to destination for stunning and delicious dessert creations with Chef Holger Deh at the helm in the patisserie kitchen. Chef Deh showcases his masterful expertise and pristine technique to craft a vivacious range of signature pastries and sweets, in addition to prized seasonal specialities such as signature mooncakes, with select confections available for purchase at jewel box-like neighbouring cake shop: The Butterfly Patisserie. Rosewood Hong Kong’s Chef de Cuisine Kwok Wai Chung oversees the savoury menu selection, with the wine, cocktail and tea programmes operating under the respective skills of Rosewood’s Area Director of Wine Nicolas Deneux, Director of Bars Arkadiusz Rybak, and with Operations Manager Ali Fong steering The Butterfly Room’s professional service team.
