The bow of the dirndl apron, however, carries special significance and must be worn correctly to convey the right message.

The position of the bow matters:

  • Left Side - You are single and possibly open to meeting someone new
  • Right Side - You are in a relationship or married
  • Center - You are a virgin
  • Back - Traditionally worn by widows or waitresses
