Galeria Filomena presents "Neotropical – Fragmentos da Memória", an exhibition by Oskar Metsavaht, curated by Marc Pottier, featuring a body of paintings and photographs that revisit the landscapes and atmospheres of Ipanema. The show emerges from an ongoing dialogue between the artist’s practice and the gallery space, bringing together works developed specifically for its environments.

In "Neotropical", Metsavaht returns to 16mm footage and images from his own archive, reorganizing memories that span decades. By expanding these fragments beyond their original context, he explores textures, light, and movement, revealing an Ipanema that is both real and subjective — a territory where nature and urban life merge in constant transformation.

The paintings evoke the aesthetic of early cinema, with black and white tones punctuated by subtle interventions of color. In the photographs, gestures, rhythms, and details of everyday life gain new layers when revisited from a temporal distance. The series, previously shown at institutions in Brazil and abroad, now returns in a new configuration, bringing together different moments of the artist’s visual research.

Occupying Galeria Filomena, "Neotropical – Fragmentos da Memória" proposes a journey that invites visitors to move through memories, atmospheres, and reimagined temporalities shaped by Metsavaht — a gaze that transforms remembrance into landscape, and landscape into a space of sensitive reflection.
