A bastion of Upper East Side sophistication known for impeccable service and privacy, The Carlyle hotel has captivated the world’s most sophisticated travelers since its debut in 1930.
Distinctive New York dining experiences range from timeless American cuisine at Dowling’s at The Carlyle to Afternoon Tea in The Gallery, to supper club cabaret at Café Carlyle, and the authentic Manhattan backdrop of Bemelmans Bar.
Coming Fall 2021. Celebrate a new era of dining with the introduction of Dowling’s at The Carlyle. Newly appointed Executive Chef Sylvain Delpique (formerly of 21 Club) has created a menu that features his interpretations of timeless New York favorites and throwback dishes from another era.
Originally opened in 1955, Café Carlyle offers a classic cabaret experience with incredible talent – including past classic performers such as Bobby Short, Elaine Stritch and Eartha Kitt. Guests can now experience modern-day acts such as Isaac Mizrahi, Judy Collins, Alan Cumming, Rita Wilson, Steve Tyrell and John Pizzarelli. The intimate supper club is highlighted by music-themed murals by Oscar-winning French artist, Marcel Vertès.
Inspired by the Topkapi Palace in Turkey, The Gallery was designed under the creative direction of the legendary Renzo Mongiardino. The space features hand-painted wallpaper by Milanese artist Enrico Brus and intaglio-like painted views of landmarks such as Venice’s Church of Santa Maria del Salute and Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia. Guests can enjoy an all-day a la carte menu, afternoon tea or cocktails.
A favorite of Upper East Siders and visitors alike since 1947, Bemelmans Bar is a special hideaway where artist and author Ludwig Bemelmans’ whimsical illustrations come to life. Best remembered for his beloved Madeline series of children’s books, the murals are the only public surviving commission of his work. Guests can enjoy classic cocktails while swinging to lively music, including performances by Earl Rose, Rob Mosci, Loston Harris and David Budway.
Commemorating the hotel’s 90th anniversary and featuring the recent renovation by the esteemed designer Tony Chi, this all-new edition of The Carlyle explores the hotel’s storied history and its status as an enduring icon. The Carlyle hardcover edition will be released in Fall 2021 and features over 208 pages, including over 200 illustrations.
