Artist Profile: Paul Bloxham
After working in the UK for more than 10 years as a visualizer, illustrator and art and design lecturer, in 1997, Paul joined Voluntary Services Overseas, in Laos to train local health workers in educational materials production.
At the end of his volunteer placement, drawn to experiencing more of a country vastly different to the UK, he stayed in Laos, and was employed to provide design and training for UN and other international organizations active in the country. For the last 20 years, he has lived in the World Heritage town of Luang Prabang, working with businesses and projects in the local heritage and tourism industry as well as international development organizations beyond Laos.
Although he has worked mainly in graphic design, his skills derive from a natural aptitude and passion for drawing. He is particularly interested in drawing from life – that is, observing the subjects first-hand and in the locations, he finds them.
