Rosewood Bangkok, together with Mozart Advisory, invites visitors to explore the boundary between master and machine with Cosmic Vibration, a solo exhibition by kinetic artist Nicolas Panayotou. Entry to the exhibition at Art Gallery on the 3rd floor of Rosewood Bangkok is complimentary, and the renowned artist’s paintings can be seen from January 18 until March 14, 2023.
Curated by Laurent Macaluso, the exhibition, for the first in Asia, opens in presence of French-Greek artist Nicolas Panayotou from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on January 18, 2023, after which it will continue to be on display at the 3rd floor of the Rosewood Bangkok for two months.
Cosmic Vibration is the latest in the hotel’s quarterly rotating exhibitions featuring the multi-media works of local and international artists.
Coming from the Parisian graffiti movement of the 1980s in Paris, Panayotou started creating art as a teenager, first with tagging, before moving on to murals. These abstract compositions bore the essence of his future iconography and his signature use of chromatic effects combined with masterful technicality.
As one of the last living artists dedicated to kinetic art, Panayotou creates art which represent the competition between human and AI. His unique and colorful works have been exhibited across Europe and China, with some having found their way into the collections of high-profile art connoisseurs.
In his series Pinacoteca, the artist presents the square form in four equilateral triangles inspired by the primitive form of the Egyptian pyramid seen from a bird’s eye view. A deliberate blur of color gradients creates a hypnotic universe of vibrating trajectories, with the resulting kaleidoscopic spaces offering the gaze the illusion of movement.
The chromatic range, the mixtures, and the superpositions guide the spectator in the meanders of a singular chromatic range – a true hymn to life. Through his art, Panayotou invites guests into another dimension, where plans and inspirations shape a real cosmic landscape.
Borrowing from forms with ancient and contemporary references, Panayotou offers a unique space of thought, bridging past and future, and intertwining the outside world with hidden interiority.
Sitting at the crossroads of kinetic art and geometric abstraction inspired by emblematic artists such as Victor Vasarely, Yaacov Agam, or more recently Ugo Rondinone, each of Panayotou’s artwork is an adventure of realization for the artist and discovery for the spectator who has to make up his own mind while letting themself be lulled by a choreography of colors.

About the Artist:
Born in 1973 in Thessaloniki, Greek, Nicolas Panayotou would later find his creative inspirations in his adopted country of France, where he creates art dedicated to visual effects, their vibrations, and their cognitive perception. After studying art history and visual arts at The Louvre Museum School and La Sorbonne, he later honed his skills and developed his art into the optical art form of kinetics, which creates optical spaces in motion with a technique of painting that rivals airbrush and digital imagery.
