Art & Artistry: A Cultural Immersion
Las Ventanas al Paraíso was conceived as a living gallery, blending contemporary fine art with Mexico’s centuries-old craft traditions. The aesthetic environment—a collaboration between Wilson & Associates and art consultant Joan Warren-Grady—favors site-specific commissions and hand-applied architectural details.
Curated Original Works
The resort’s collection features prominent Mexican and American artists whose work defines the property's visual identity:
- Rodrigo Pimentel: A vibrant, large-scale painting by this Mexican master hangs in the reception area. Pimentel’s work, sourced from a Mexico City museum, explores deep cultural themes and his work has been exhibited in over 80 solo and group shows across Europe and the Americas.
- Deloss McGraw: A bronze mermaid sculpture by the acclaimed American artist greets guests as they transition from the lobby to the resort’s core. The piece is inscribed with a Spanish poem about paradise, reflecting McGraw’s signature literary inspiration.
- Dorothy Churchill-Johnson: Known for her "super-realism," the Santa Barbara artist contributed oversized, meticulous depictions of indigenous cacti that anchor the lobby.
- Fernando Andriacci: The public corridors and lobby feature the fanciful animal motifs and colorful tile murals for which this renowned Oaxacan artist is known.
- Hampton Hall: The resort's dining room features a hand-painted mural created on-site by the Los Angeles artist, whose work is found in high-profile private collections globally.
- Barbara Weldon: In a significant commission, Weldon produced an individual "Paradise" series of oils on paper for every suite. These numbered pieces are positioned in entryways and above the soaking tubs, ensuring art is part of the private guest experience.
The Master Craftsmen
The resort’s "sense of place" is physically built into its structure through the meticulous handwork of Mexican artisans, ensuring an aesthetic that feels organic rather than manufactured.
- Architectural Surfaces and Finishes: A husband-and-wife team, Isidrio and Amora Sorya, applied hand-painted, textured faux finishes to the walls of the public spaces, the private wine room, and the suite bathrooms. In the guest rooms, the focus is anchored by dramatic sunburst-design headboards—a complex inlay of pebbles executed by these two master artisans from Mexico City.
- Artisanal Stonework: The resort is defined by its "stone carpeting"—a network of meandering, raised-pebble walkways hand-laid by local craftsmen. This same technique is utilized for the intricate stone carpets in the reception area and each guest room. Rather than following rigid templates, the artisans were encouraged to interpret general patterns, allowing for a fluid, traditional Mexican character.
- Woodwork and Hand-Painted Motifs: Entry to each suite is through oversized cedar doors, meticulously hand-carved by master woodworkers in Guadalajara. Inside, the expertise of artist Alberto Grave is visible in the subtle Mexican motifs hand-painted onto every fireplace and built-in nightstand, adding layers of domestic detail.
- Decorative Ironwork: Metalwork provides both function and artistry throughout the property. A Los Cabos metal artisan forged the custom locks for the windows and doors of every suite. Central to the evening ambiance are two massive, hand-wrought iron chandeliers with a celestial theme; suspended beneath the thatched palapas of the bar and reception area, they are designed to give the impression of stars hanging from the ceiling.
