An Ancient Estate Rooted In Legacy

A home restored and legacy preserved. Framed by a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 900-year-old medieval borgo of Castiglion del Bosco is an immersion into the Tuscan way of life

Framed by the rolling hills of Val d’Orcia, Castiglion del Bosco, A Rosewood Hotel is a 5,000-acre estate in Montalcino, founded in the 1100s and restored by the Ferragamo family with deep respect for its history and soul.

At its heart lies a medieval borgo—a place where heritage breathes quietly through stone, light and landscape. Massimo Ferragamo envisioned not a destination but a home. Chiara Ferragamo shaped its essence piece by piece, traveling across Italy to source antiques, collaborating with master artisans and restoring each object with care and purpose. Every villa and suite reflects this vision—intimate, timeless and authentically Tuscan.

The 12th-century castle still crowns the estate, while the chapel guards a 14th-century fresco by Pietro Lorenzetti, a hidden gem of Sienese art. Beyond the borgo, trails weave through woodlands, ruins and vineyards.

The estate has produced Brunello di Montalcino since the early 1900s and proudly stands among the 25 founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello—a legacy rooted in soil, time and craftsmanship. Among its hidden treasures, a private golf course designed by legend Tom Weiskopf gently follows the curves of the land, offering a pure expression of the game in harmony with the Tuscan landscape.

Here, the land takes the lead: olives are pressed to oil, grapes to wine and vegetables gathered fresh from the organic garden. Flavors are celebrated in the Michelin-starred restaurant or in the Osteria, once the home of the village priest. This is la cucina Italiana—regional, generous and grounded in the rhythm of the seasons.

And here, hospitality is lived not performed. In the quiet of morning, with a cappuccino lovingly prepared by the "mamma in villa", in the joy of the "Festa della Domenica" where guests and locals gather in celebration, or in the pulse of the Palio di Siena—witnessed from within, seated among locals, greeted by the Contrada captain.

This is a place where Tuscany still breathes, and where guests become part of its unfolding story.

Welcome to Castiglion del Bosco—where Tuscany welcomes you home.
