The Beloved Caribbean Escape Ushers in a Momentous Milestone with Bespoke Programming
January 18, 2024
Set across 500 acres of pristine private beachfront and the breathtaking flora and fauna of Virgin Gorda, the third-largest island of the British Virgin Islands, Rosewood Little Dix Bay has long been regarded as one of the world’s greatest getaways. Originally founded by conservationist Laurance Rockefeller on January 18, 1964, Rosewood Little Dix Bay was quickly established amongst affluential explorers as one of the discerning destinations throughout the Caribbean. Now in 2024, the resort celebrates its 60th anniversary, an important milestone that is meaningful for the island community and the legion of loyal guests who have embraced the resort’s unique identity for decades. 2024 also marks Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ 30th year operating the property, as both the brand and resort have evolved in lockstep. With a robust schedule of celebrations, Rosewood Little Dix Bay will spend its 60th year to reflecting on its legacy, while also ensuring that it remains a shining example of ecotourism and a dedicated protector of the Caribbean’s fragile, yet beautiful, natural world.
Soon after opening, Rosewood Little Dix Bay quickly became a traditional getaway for many guests, creating a community of Virgin Gorda loyalists who returned year after year, all of whom contributed to the beautiful and colorful fabric of the resort’s storied history. Inspired by Laurence Rockefeller’s passion as a conservationist, the resort has been low impact since its beginnings—championing a style of luxury hospitality that closely connects visitors to their surroundings. After being devastated by the effects of Hurricane Irma in 2017, the renowned property reemerged to universal delight in January 2020 following an extensive, four-year renovation. Great care was taken to ensure that the resort retained its original emphasis on celebrating the surrounding natural environment while introducing new and elevated experiences.
Throughout the year 2024, Rosewood Little Dix Bay will honor its sixty years of existence with a calendar of meaningful programs and partnerships, all meant to recognize the many chapters in the property’s history while also showcasing what’s to come. Events and offerings will include a throwback celebration of 1960’s cocktail culture, an exhibit by world-renowned photographer Greg Williams, special culinary journeys, stylish, limited-edition brand collaborations, and more.
“We are honored to celebrate this important milestone for Rosewood Little Dix Bay and to have the opportunity to share the stories of this beautiful slice of paradise in a way that feels authentic to its original identity,” said Andreas Pade, Managing Director of Rosewood Little Dix Bay. “The resort has always sought to celebrate the unspoiled beauty and vibrancy of Virgin Gorda, and the entire team is steadfast in our commitment to continuing this stewardship and providing meaningful ways for our guests to connect with the destination,” added Pade.
A Celebration of the 60s at The Rum Room
In recent years, there has been a revived interest in the nostalgia of '60s cocktail culture. Given that this decade was marked by an explosion in the popularity of tropical and Caribbean-inspired beverages, there is no matter place to celebrate cocktail culture’s golden years than the Rum Room at Rosewood Little Dix Bay. During the property’s initial heyday, guests would flock to the Rum Room to enjoy cocktail hour in a true barefoot luxury setting. To celebrate the 60th anniversary, the resort is turning back the clock and allowing guests to embrace the throwback glamour of the Rum Room with a specialty menu of vintage recipes, from old favorites like the Gimlet and The Grasshopper to more tropical flavors like the Pelican Smash. The menu will be executed by the resort’s world-class bar team, with cocktail recipes created in partnership with Pernod Ricard, a global leader in wine and spirits. Bringing a new flair to the Rum Room, the resort has partnered with artist and illustrator Tess Ramirez to capture the beauty of the resort’s iconic silhouette through the recreation of a vintage cocktail. Inspired by her love of the British Virgin Islands, Tess created original illustrations making the menu itself a coveted souvenir for fans of the property. This spring, Tess will return to the property as an Artist in Residence, sharing her talents with guests of Rosewood Little Dix Bay through hands-on programming. Tess will thoughtfully curate on-property experiences to inspire each participant to channel their creative spirit in one of the most naturally inspiring settings.
