Born in 1971 in Kandal province, Cambodia, Nou Sary's journey epitomizes the triumph of the human spirit. From humble beginnings in a rice farming family to pursuing his education in Phnom Penh at the age of 12, Sary's determination fueled his ascent. His art serves as a testament to resilience, perseverance and the power of dreams. For this exhibition, Sary showcases eight artworks inspired by Cambodia, highlighting daily life and his enduring passion for rice harvesting. His pieces evoke the lush landscapes of rural Cambodia, depicting scenes of farmers toiling in the fields and the rhythmic motions of traditional harvesting.
Sous Sodavy was born in 1955 and has emerged as a beacon of artistic excellence. Surviving the horrors of the Khmer Rouge, he sought refuge in Hungary, where he mastered the craft of large-scale drawing and assemblage. Sodavy's art transcends borders, evoking ethereal beauty and profound emotion. His sketches pay homage to Apsara dancers, inviting viewers on a deep journey through Cambodian culture and its traditions. In this exhibition, Sodavy's works capture the grace and elegance of the Apsara, portraying their fluid movements and intricate costumes in meticulous detail.
Born in 1969 in Kandal’s Svay Rieng, Chhim Sothy navigates the intersection of tradition and innovation in his artistic journey. Trained at the Royal University of Fine Arts, he embarked on diverse ventures, from designing to collaborating with UNESCO. Sothy's art reflects a blend of traditional Khmer motifs and contemporary interpretations, infused with profound meaning. His inspiration for this exhibition stems from the landscapes and daily life along the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers, paying homage to Cambodia's cultural heritage and civilization. Sothy's pieces in “Life and Culture” capture the vibrancy and bustle of floating markets and fishing communities.
