Roots of the Village
In Cambodia, the village remains the heart of identity, culture and community life. “Roots of the Village” pays tribute to the resilience, labour and traditions of the people whose daily lives sustain the country's land and waterways.
Drawing inspiration from more than two decades of artistic practice, Dina Chhan captures the rhythms of Cambodian village life through vibrant oil and acrylic paintings, alongside ceramic works mounted on locally sourced mango wood. Deeply connected to Cambodian households and rural economies, these materials embody the textures, colours and stories of the landscapes they represent.
The collection portrays scenes of everyday life, from bustling markets and shing boats on the Tonle Sap to rice farmers at work and the animals that inhabit Cambodia's rich ecosystems. Through these works, Dina celebrates the enduring relationship between people, land and water, re ecting the shared experiences that shape rural communities.
“Roots of the Village” is a testament to cultural heritage, resilience and the spirit of community. It honors the generations whose connection to the land continues to preserve Cambodia's traditions and way of life.
