Since their collaboration began in 2021, Rosewood Phnom Penh and Phare Ponleu Selpak have worked together to create meaningful and lasting impact within Cambodia's arts and culture scene. The annual charity dinner has become a high-profile event, eagerly anticipated by distinguished guests and supporters alike. Together, the four dinners held to date have raised USD115,000 in vital funds.
Phare Ponleu Selpak, meaning "The Brightness of the Arts" in Khmer, is a beacon of hope and creativity in Cambodia. Established in 1994 by nine survivors of the Khmer Rouge regime, Phare Ponleu Selpak has grown into a respected grassroots arts and vocational training center in Battambang. While the school is celebrated for its captivating circus performances, it also provides free public education, art lessons, vocational training, and more to over 1,200 eager students.
This year’s charity dinner delivered an evening of extraordinary experiences, showcasing Cambodia’s rich culture and abundant talent. Guests were welcomed with a cocktail and time to explore the silent auction, featuring 30 art pieces by renowned local artists, before placing their bids. A live painting session by refugee and Phare Ponleu Selpak co-founder, TOR Vutha, captured the audience’s imagination and added an interactive element to the reception.
A sumptuous four-course dinner crafted by Executive Chef Jan van Dyk took guests on a culinary journey through the finest of Khmer cuisine. Dishes such as Plea Trey Ceviche with Leche de Tigre, Duck Leg Cannelloni and Yellow Curry with Fresh Coconut Milk tantalized taste buds and left appetites satisfied.
The evening’s entertainment included performances by Phare Ponleu Selpak's talented students, who brought traditional Khmer dances and music to life. The highlight of the night was the live auction, featuring prestigious prizes such as ultra-luxury stays in Rosewood properties across the globe and limited-edition items designed in collaboration with Phare alumni. Notable among these were stunning designer dresses from A.N.D and AMBRE, adding a dose of glamor to proceedings.
Rosewood Phnom Penh's Managing Director, Daniel Simon, shared, "Phare Ponleu Selpak does incredible work in the community, providing exceptional arts and performance programs for young students. At Rosewood, we believe learning is the foundation of growth and opportunities, and we are proud to support an organization that prioritizes education, skills training, and social support for the most vulnerable Cambodians."
The now-celebrated charity dinner exemplifies Rosewood Phnom Penh and Phare Ponleu Selpak's commitment to education, arts, and community development. Both organizations hope to continue working together, creating meaningful impact for Cambodian families and young people well into the future.
