Rosewood Phnom Penh invites guests to step away from the city’s fast pace and journey into the quiet rhythm of rural life with A Day on Koh Dach — a half-day immersive tour of the famed Silk Island, where time-honored craft, cultural heritage, and community spirit thrive.
August 14, 2025
Emerging from the Mekong River, Koh Dach is home to generations of skilled women weavers keeping Cambodia’s centuries-old silk weaving traditions alive. Many of these women work from their stilted wooden homes, caring for their children while spinning vibrant threads into krama — the iconic scarf used daily in Cambodia as a practical accessory, cultural emblem, and symbol of resilience.
The process begins with the silkworm, nurtured until it spins its delicate cocoon. From there, the silk is carefully harvested, dyed with natural pigments, and woven by hand on traditional wooden looms. Each piece is the culmination of days — sometimes weeks — of meticulous work, embodying the patience, artistry, and pride of its maker.
During the tour, guests will:
“Koh Dach is more than a place — it’s a living story of heritage, community, and the enduring craftsmanship of Cambodian women,” shared Daniel Simon, Managing Director at Rosewood Phnom Penh. “This journey allows our guests to connect with that story in a way that is both deeply personal and culturally enriching.”
Guests can enjoy A Day on Koh Dach for USD320 per person, including transport from Rosewood Phnom Penh.
