Inspired by Mayan Traditions, Mexico’s Acclaimed Spa Calls on Ancient Practices to Impart Relaxation and Rejuvenation

RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO – Located on its own private island at the heart of Rosewood Mayakoba, Mexico’s premier resort, Sense, A Rosewood Spa® beckons guests in search of the ultimate escape. The unparalleled spa retreat spans 17,000-square-feet nestled amongst the property’s lush natural vegetation and sweeping lagoons, melding water and earth in perfect harmony. With the use of traditional Mexican healing techniques and treatments inspired by ancient Mayan practices, a new and utterly unique approach to health and wellness has been carefully designed to rejuvenate mind, body and soul.

Once guests step over the Puente del Balneario (“Spa Bridge”) and into Sense, A Rosewood Spa®, they are immediately embraced into a sanctuary of tranquility and relaxation. Named one of the top 10 spas in Mexico, the island oasis includes 12 luxurious lagoon-side treatment rooms and eight private spa suites built around a cenote, an underground natural wonder of river systems and fresh water sinkholes which the Mayans consider to be a sacred entrance to the underworld.

Remaining true to its locale and therapeutic influences, Sense, A Rosewood Spa® features a Temazcal, a traditional Mayan steam bath, which has been used over thousands of years for both healing and ritual purposes. The Temazcal is a small domed structure built to hold in the warmth of hot stones that have been heated in an exterior fire and then placed in a central pit in the ground. The steam, produced by water infused with herbs, is a fusion of the virgin energy of volcanic rock designed to purify, cure, revitalize and balance. Guests intrigued by the spiritual element of the Temazcal experience can request the availability of a Mayan Shaman through the spa staff.

Guests may choose from a variety of treatments, including massages, facials, body scrubs, wraps and aromatherapy treatments as well as several combination packages. Signature treatments at Sense, A Rosewood Spa® include:
