Riviera Maya, MEXICO – Continuously recognized as one of Mexico’s best resorts, Rosewood Mayakoba is pleased to announce the launch of the Seven Wonders of the Yucatan package, a curated collection of experiences that are unique to Riviera Maya. As luxury travel continues to be redefined by the experiences guests come home with, the new offering accentuates and celebrates the very best of the region’s rich culture and history. During the course of the stay, guests will be treated to seven exceptional experiences, including:
Whale Shark Expedition: An experience highly unique to the region, this first ‘wonder’ allows guests to swim with whale sharks, the largest living fish species that is believed to have originated approximately 60 million years ago. Nutrients available in the water surrounding the Yucatan Peninsula attract whale sharks to the region to feed from June to mid-September. Guests are invited to partake in this unique experience in pairs accompanied by an expert guide.
Half Day Sea and Cave Snorkeling Expedition: An expedition that combines a snorkeling journey to one of the largest underground river systems in the world with a visit to a semi-virgin inlet on the Caribbean Sea. While swimming the crystal waters of the underground sacred rivers, guests are exposed to formations of stalactites and stalagmites that decorate one of the most impressive underground caverns in the region. Continue the expedition towards an exclusive inlet surrounded by clear, calm and inviting Caribbean waters – perfect conditions for snorkeling. Underwater rock formations create a fascinating sub-aquatic terrain and the ideal habitat for exotic marine creatures.
Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve: Spend an unforgettable day exploring the beauty of Sian Ka’an, the first established Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. It is currently a UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to 800 plant species and provides a habitat for 350 species of birds and different kinds of animals. While at Sian Ka’an, witness native flora and fauna, enjoy a ride in the natural mangrove canals and visit a small archeological site once used by the Mayans as a trading post. Guests will conclude the day with a unique swimming experience and lunch on the beach.
The Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza: Chichen Itza once served as the political, economic and ceremonial center on Mayan civilization. The famous Mayan pyramids are over 1,500 years old and are dubbed one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. A certified guide will escort guests through “El Castillo,” the pyramid located roughly at the center of the site, and enlighten listeners with a vast amount of information about Mayan culture so as to provide a better understanding about the unique civilization whose presence can be felt while walking along the same path as its ancient inhabitants. After visiting Chichen Itza, there is an opportunity to visit Valladolid, a colonial city once known as the capital of Spanish power. Highlights include a look at the city’s ornate architecture, special market places and a Franciscan convent.
Shaman Blessing: Guests will partake in a 30-minute signature ritual performed by a traditional Mayan shaman at the Spa Palapa, decorated with candles and perfumed with incense.
Gastronomical Tour: For the ultimate culinary experience, guests will enjoy a multi-course, gastronomic journey throughout the property by private boat. Beginning with appetizers served al fresco on the rooftop terrace or patio of the suite, guests will then be transported via private boat to Punta Bonita, the resort’s traditional Mexican restaurant for the main course served alongside one-of-a-kind views of the Caribbean Sea. Finally, the boat will lead to Casa del Lago for the evening’s finale course, dessert.
Starting rate: USD2,669 per person based on four people staying in a Lagoon Studio Suite; includes all seven activities and accommodations.
