Cultivate by Daichiro Shinjo
Daichiro Shinjo, an artist from Miyakojima, co-founded PALI Gallery with photographer Naoki Ishikawa to support and nurture the island’s cultural continuity and growth. Through Rosewood Miyakojima’s collaboration with PALI Gallery, a new work has been introduced at Arrival House, the gateway to the resort, offering guests a meaningful connection to the island from the moment they arrive—a small yet heartfelt effort to support and sustain Miyakojima’s cultural heritage for the future.
Titled “Cultivate,” Shinjo’s work reflects the spirit and natural energy of Miyakojima. Shaped by its unique landscape, the island has long inspired a culture rooted in resilience, creativity, and deep respect for nature.
From this environment emerged refined traditions such as Miyako Jofu and enduring forms of expression that continue to define the island’s cultural identity today. Shinjo’s work pays tribute to this quiet strength and the enduring relationship between people, land, and time.
The word “cultivate” shares its origin with “culture.” Culture begins with cultivation. Through “Cultivate,” Shinjo expresses the vitality, strength, and creative spirit of Miyakojima.
