Renewal in Season
As the seasons shift we look toward the future.
Milestones Overview
A locally-based sustainability mindset executed on a global scale.
2010 | Verdes®: The Green Initiative
This initiative is designed to ensure a luxury level of hospitality whilst minimising environmental impact. Established around a sustainability-focused A Sense of Place® philosophy, this commitment involves modifying supply chains to reduce waste, promoting conservation policies and educating associates on future-oriented business practice.
2012 | Partners in Provenance
Launched in 2012, this program is committed to using locally grown and sourced ingredients wherever possible across Rosewood hospitality providers. Borne out of respect for local farmers and indigenous agriculture, this initiative emphasizes maintaining a seasonal and diverse menu featuring local and organic produce.
2014 | Living Reefs Foundation in Bermuda
Rosewood Bermuda proudly supports the Living Reefs Foundation - an environmental organisation dedicated to the preservation of Bermuda’s aquatic ecosystem. Helping to restore the growth of coral structures, remove plastic waste from endangered habitats and foster a healthy environment for polyp spawning, this initiative seeks to preserve the beauty of the island nation for generations to come.
2014 | In-house Water Bottling System
An innovation implemented at Rosewood London, our in-house water bottling system helps to reduce plastic waste across our new hotel developments. Functioning by having glass bottles washed, refilled and repackaged through an on-site recycling system, this sustainability initiative sees you contribute to substantial waste reductions; up to 30% at Rosewood London.
2017 | K’iin Beh School Mayakoba
Based in the Riviera Maya, the K’iin Beh School is purpose-built facility by Rosewood Mayakoba, designed to educate the children of the hotel’s employees along with local youth. Serving 200+ students in its inaugural year, this combined elementary-middle school offers bilingual, full time education in the aim of combatting low literacy rates in southern Mexico.
2025 | 50% carbon neutrality
An ambitious goal spanning our entire hotel network, we aim to ensure 50% of all new projects are carbon neutral by 2025. Intending to achieve this by designing resource-efficient hotels, engineering renewable energy sources into building plans, and purchasing renewable energy credits to offset carbon emissions, our vision is focused on ensuring both sustainable construction and operation of our hotels.
2025 | Green Building Certification
In alignment with our sustainable development goals, we are striving to build hotels with green building certifications by 2025. Awarded to building designs that are resource-efficient throughout their construction and lifecycle, green building rating would ensure that our property portfolio is among the world’s most sustainable architectural developments.
2025 | Elimination of guest-facing single-use plastics
Seeking to reduce consumption of non-degradable resources, we are focused on eliminating all guest-facing single-use plastics by 2025. Already under development, where feasible, this initiative will involve packaging all wet bathroom amenities in reusable containers, replacing all dry amenities with biodegradable alternatives and adding sustainable water bottling plants into new hotel developments.
2025 | Diversion of 70% of waste from landfill
Determined to minimise our contribution to landfill, this goal will see us pursue 70% waste diversion by 2025, with the eventual objective of producing zero waste. Strategising for this intention, we aim to implement an infrastructure for effective waste movement including bin maps, liner selections and signage, as well as developing organic waste solutions such as on-site composting and food donation schemes.
The Cultured Palate
Ivan Suardi, envisions his latest seasonal food and beverage concepts, he draws upon the philosophy of ‘The Cultured Palate’.
At the heart of Suardi’s food and beverage philosophy is the celebration of unique and authentic cultural connection. Nowhere is this more apparent than at Ta Khai, a much-loved restaurant within Rosewood Phuket that draws upon extensive knowledge of southern Thai recipes. Run by a local couple, who met and bonded over a mutual love of food, guests benefit from the couple’s decade’s long cooking experience through their signature dishes that they have created together using traditional techniques and ingredients. The setting also pays homage to local Thai history, with buildings made from repurposed material from an old fishing village.
A newly launched and unique approach aimed at creating inspired, one-of-a-kind settings that celebrate the diversity of Rosewood’s communities, this beverage direction is perhaps most distinct at Zapote, a Yucatán-inspired cocktail bar within Rosewood Mayakoba. Named for the indigenous tree, Zapote offers a rare blend of sophisticated Mexican artisanship and hacienda culture, delivering a distinctive menu that shines a spotlight on Mayan ingredients, tools, and techniques.
Grounded in respect for nature, traditional practice and local community, Suardi’s food and beverage philosophy is deeply rooted in environmental and cultural preservation. At Ristorante Campo del Drago, a farm-to-table restaurant situated within Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, this vision takes the form of carefully-grown organic produce, delicate menus that accentuate this kitchen-garden bounty and honed Tuscan cooking skills that see guests provided with fresh and authentic Italian cuisine.
