We’re closing out Yo ♥ Mexico with a series of events celebrating the deep roots and rich impact of Mexican heritage both at home and abroad. Our guests include the Mexican proprietors behind RGNY, a sustainable, family-owned vineyard in the North Fork of New York, as well as chef Roberto Solis, the chef/owner of Nectar and several other restaurants in the central Yucatan city of Merida.

A Spiritual Guide to Chocolate with chocolatier Andrea Muñoz

Zapote Bar | Thursday, April 28 | 5 PM

Led by our chocolate “shaman,” the sustainable bean-to-bar chocolatier Andrea Muñoz, this class explores the history behind this heritage ingredient, from how the Mayans traditionally prepared cacao to how it has evolved throughout the centuries and continues to play a key role in Mexican cuisine. Ideal for families, complete with tastings and hands-on chocolate work, or for adults, alongside spirits pairings.

Guest chef Wes Avila joins our culinary team at La Ceiba for our signature family-style dinner that reflects the fullest expression of seasonal Mexican cuisine. In addition to classic dishes cooked over an open-flame, guests can expect plates inspired by chef Wes Avila’s new Los Angeles restaurant Ka’teen, which marries coastal Mexican ingredients with culinary traditions and techniques of the Yucatan Peninsula.

As part of our ongoing series, Martes de Locales, we’re welcoming NYC-based guest bartender Lynnette Marrero, an inspiring leader in the cocktail industry and founder of Speed Rack, the first all-female speed bartending competition, for a one-night residency at Zapote Bar. Marrero has been honored by the James Beard Awards as one of America’s Leading Female Mixologists, named Food & Wine and Fortune Magazine’s Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink, and recognized as Wine Enthusiast’s Mixologist of the Year, among other accolades.

Join as we celebrate the flavors and ingredients of Baja California alongside guest chef Wes Avila in this Yo ❤ Mexico edition of Sabores de Baja, our weekly dining experience showcasing the colorful culinary heritage of Mexico’s Pacific Coast. We’re welcoming Chef Wes from Los Angeles, where his restaurant Angry Egret Dinette was just named a James Beard Award semi-finalist for ‘Best New Restaurant.’

In addition to our various food stations, this special Sabores de Baja experience features craft cocktails from acclaimed NYC-based bartender Lynnette Marrero, who the James Beard Foundation also honored as one of America’s Leading Female Mixologists.

The weekend-long event welcomes renown chefs Claudette Zepeda (VAGA Encinitas, San Diego) and Joshua Gil (Mirame, Los Angeles), as well as Houston-based, Mexico-born mixologist Alba Huerta.
